White was my first choice color too. But after seeing the red I fell instantly in love with it. Plus it suited the red stitching interiors more than any colors!!

I am also considering the red also over my usual white,
however I think the red will have more visible swirl marks, also if you are keeping the car for a long time say 10 years or more, the red will tend to oxidize or peel. Am I right?

Just look at many flat, peeling red AE86s out there (very popular color back then), but white ones just stand up better over time..

However I gotta say the red is HOT.

Poll appears to still be open, so my 0.02.....I chose red, not because I own it, but rather, because it is way better looking in person than most people realize. I had discounted the colour because I had a red Corolla and the pictures of the FR-S didn't say wow to me. Saw it at the car show under artificial light and was "It looks better in person." Then when I test drove the car that I ended up buying, I was "Wow! It REALLY looks WAY better in person." It even seems to change its appearance in sunny vs. cloudy weather (and looks good in either case (in different ways)).

So if you like bold colors, go as bold as you want!
can you expand on this? what is the reasoning as to how no one color is singled out for tickets?..what do the cops do that ''reduces" the possibility of a "red"
or bright colored car from being stopped more than other more ''subtle" colored cars?..thanks!

yes! red "oxidizes" over time, and dulls to a "horse shit" pink
from being exposed to the sun.color becomes "chalky" over time!
keep it waxed and you can reduce the sun's effects!

My favorite color for a car is white but I do not like pearl white so I went for the firestorm which I love.

I originally found that snippet of information in some sociological journal somewhere, while writing a report for class; and of course, now that I need it to share with like-minded car enthusiasts, I can't seem to find it. Oh well... I'll go with my second-most-credible source, Snopes! http://www.snopes.com/autos/law/redcars.asp

If there did use to be a color bias in ticketing, I can see the increasing use of speed cameras and longer-range radar evening out the statistics even more.

EDIT: One other thought on this issue...

In addition to driving my 86 fast (perhaps in areas where people would tut-tut me for doing so), I also ride motorcycles. Therefore, I spend A LOT of time trying to mind-read other drivers, and generally making myself as visible as humanly possible.

Personally, I still believe cops are trained to look at general movement in traffic...to find shapes that are either going faster than traffic, or just moving in a reckless way... rather than latching onto and focusing on a single car because of its color. However, for the sake of argument, let's say that that is the truth, and that the oft-repeated myth of red-cars getting more tickets is true. To me, then, it comes down to a simple mathematical formula (and there is no right or wrong answer; just depends on your individual assessment)...

Does the number of ticket-happy cops in your area exceed the number of idiot drivers?

Personally, I'd rather run a slightly elevated risk of getting a speeding ticket in order to prevent texting/ talking/ make-up putting on/ drunk ass-hats in minivans or gargantuan SUV's from turning out in front of me.

Just another angle to consider...
