Your stock exhaust manifold revealed

These stock headers aren't that bad actually(pretty good actually). Comparing it to something like a C63 AMG, which costs twice as much!!



I am sure you can guess which one is stock. Here are some headers off a R8 V8! A supercar, and they look like on par with ours(except theirs is probably EL where as ours is slightly UEL).

Slight correction... 4-2-1 does not mean stepped.

A stepped header has the tubing diameter stepped up to a larger diameter somewhere between the head flanges and the collector.

You can have 4-2-1 non stepped, 4-1 non-stepped, 4-1 stepped, or 4-2-1 stepped (like the Nameless).

can you say what size is the piping if you still have it? I wonder if taking the cat off and welding a piece of pipe instead would yield the same results as an aftermarket header.

This may be why massive gains are not being seen with aftermarket headers. Because the stock one is really not that bad.


Another thing to notice is there is foam between the heat shield and the header. I'm guessing that this is the prevent rattling.


One thing you really have to think about is:


If Toyota went though all the trouble and expense of making this heat shield it must be there for a reason. (To prevent fires maybe?).


I think I'm going to wrap my header tomorrow.

I got a leak, it was very lite, soaked my wrap had a fire on my last track day

Took out belt, crank seal and cam position sensor plug
I'm looking at making the factory shields work with the hks header next

There is a thread on here of someone doing this, and they didn't make any power if I can remember correctly.

This thread has got me thinking about using exhaust wrap as well...never used it before.

I thought I read somewhere that it can hold in heat and potentially cause problems because of that? It might not have been headers that they were talking about though...

No it mad good power. I think the dyno was in the 180 range.

I wouldn't say that is a very good way to judge if that getting rid of the cat is worth it or not for these headers. E85 is powerful stuff. Like this, 201whp completely stock car! Clicky

One of our forum member (forum name DBW) made 213 whp and 172 tq on a dynojet out of our stock headers, e85, 3 inch catless exhaust and a drop in filter. He chops off the header cat and replace it with a 3 inch pipe.

I have a feeling that saving up to have them ceramic coated is a better option. I've heard horror stories at car shows where the wrap gets some oil on it and begins to burn, not something I want to worry about on a daily driver
