HELL NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
![]() If I wanted a convertible car of this type then I already would have bought a miata or S2000. They are excellent examples of affordable excellent handling small rwd convertible sports cars and they are available now. Why wait 2 years for a convertible FT-86? The whole reason I'm looking forward to this car is because for whatever reason, over the last 20 years, Mazda has chosen to ignore my pleading for a coupe version of the miata and later the Kabura project. I don't wan't a convertible which adds weight and lowers the rigidity of the car. I don't even want a sunroof. If you want a convertible there are plenty of options available just don't compromise my small lightweight RWD COUPE. |

Why would anybody in their right state of mind want a convertible... unless you're an attention whore!

Aren't some of the Miata folks crying for a coupe?
(I want that white Subaru hatch of Ichi's!)

My Gf would want a convertible one lol.
I would prefer a Targa top on the FT if they were going to do one. There have been a few Subaru XTs & XT6s convertibles done. They actually used a double floor pan to increase the strength. |

The RX-8 is a wonderful car as far as the design and chassis. The only problem I've ever found with it was to do with the transmission(which has a family history of problems) and the Renesis which is a bit too high strung and specialty for my taste. If Mazda had offered an inline 4 from their economy line people would still have bought it on looks and handling alone. ![]() I'm surprised at the disdain for convertibles. If you truly want to enjoy driving you need to feel/hear the wind rushing past and the clatter of the engine and the squalling of the tires. The Miata is a true to it's roots driver's car and it is a convertible. Maybe that's your problem. The best solution to that is try out a go-kart with even a modest power to weight ratio, that is how to experience truly exhilarating driving . Sadly, the last time I drove a go-kart I was small(8 or 9) and scared to death, my co-pilot was a friend's dad and he stomping the accelerator . *sigh*

I wouldn't want a FT86 convertible. I drive one now (Miata) and would be driving a Miata coupe if they had made one. I would like the FT to be a two seater hatch back like the old CRX's.
