Sure your score will be higher next year, but it isn't going to be that much higher and you're still going to be stuck with a high interest rate.

I hope you budgeted for snow tires.

Well, that's not quite accurate. A lot of people building, or re-establishing credit HAVE to get in to a high APR loan. It is simply the bank covering the risk.

Pay good on it for 2 years and he will probably have a solid score again so long as he doesn't mess anything else up and keep up with his current obligations. A lot of banks won't pick up loans on older used cars when a person has a lower score. Its all about risk management to them.

Also on the same note he could have bought a beater car cash (if cash was saved) like you're talking about and continued to pay on his credit card.... but it would take longer to re-establish credit.

Credit is a finicky thing, and every single situation is different. For the OP ideally he will rebuild his credit while he is in a nice, reliable, newer car he can enjoy.

Buy snow tires. End regret of RWD. Enjoy the car.

Even if you don't like it, pay off at least half of it before moving onto another vehicle, especially given your current financial situation. Maybe even find somebody to take over payments altogether. Don't let personal preferences lead to multiple bad financial decisions.

Actually getting a credit card with a high limit is a good idea because part of your credit score is based on credit utilization. You want to be using less than 9% of your overall credit limit in order to get the best credit score.

WRX grass is greener.

OP, you've seemed to find the positives of owning the car and I saw your buyer's remorse has passed.

One more things to add is that you'll be saving money on wearables like tires and brakes compared to the heavier and AWD WRX.

Agree with the grass is greener comment. I had my brz for a year and the whole time I was thinking I should have went with a wrx hatch. Well I finally got to drive one of my buddies cars and boy was it a let down. I didn't care for the handling or the seats. I've been mostly happy with the brz since. I will say the new wrx feels a lot better imo, but sadly no hatch.

Also highly recommend winter tires, should solve most concerns with snow. I'm on my 3rd winter with the brz and have yet to get truly stuck, do have to shovel more than I'd like to get out of my spot.

I own 15 WRX and I live in Seattle. Let me tell you, there isn't a day after 3 months of ownership that I don't think about owning a RWD car. You probably have to drive like a turd on snow tires half of the time, but it's well worth it driving other half of the time in a small RWD unless you're not into RWD experience. I'm switching to Miata. Just saying.

for some reason, the passed couple of days I've been regretting purchasing my FRS.

Here's my back story:
I'm 24 years old, and drove a 2001 Dodge Intrepid from the time I was 19 up until August 2015. My engine shit the bed, and I wasn't in the best financial situation, so I had to wait and save for a car. Last year, I went through some shitty decisions that affected my credit score (dropped to a womping 550). Last month I decided for ha, ha's to go to my local Toyota dealership and see what was there. Before I knew it I was approved for a loan for an FRS ($17k, with 17k miles). They had to search long and far to find a lender willing to accept me because of my score. I applied to my credit union only to get denied, as well.

Anyway, I'm starting to regret getting the FRS because
1. I live in New England and AWD would've been nice

Not sure why but it's really eating at me. Sorta wished I had gotten a WRX, but then again a WRX with 17k miles would come with a $23k plus price tag. If I spent $17k on a WRX it would probably have close to 80k miles.
Just buy some winter tires and have some fun. I live just north of you in NH and I am loving winter! I go sideways whenever I can. I haven't gotten stuck yet.

I literally just went out in a snowstorm up here today! I drove past several accidents with windows down and my miami sound machine blasting! Enjoy the car brotha!
