Changing L/100KM to MPG?

Is there a technique to changing your fuel mileage display from L/100KM to MPG? Even as a Canadian I find the whole metric measurement confusing. I would figure if you can change your speed from KM to MPH then I would think this would be possible, no?

just calculate it yourself when you fill up. the instantaneous readout doesnt really serve a purpose and the average is usually wrong by 10% for me.

I'd have a similar request - but change it from l/100km to km/l (which it looks like it can do).

It's just what you're used to I guess. I've always grown up in metric countries, but heights still get quoted in feet and inches.

L/100KM is just a bad way to measure things, it has nothing to do with the metric system. If I have 12 litres of gas, or 1/4 tank left, I want to know how far I can get with that gas, not how much gas it takes to go 100 KM, because 100KM is just a meaningless number. It should be KM/L which is the same as mpg.

Dimensional analysis, dude. Am I the only one here that passed 7th grade science class?

x L / 100 km * 1 gal / 3.8L * 100 km / 62 miles = y gal / miles

x * 0.00424 = y

z miles / gal = 1 / y = 1 / (x*0.00424)

z miles per gallon = 235.2 / x

So to convert one to the other, divide 235.2 by it.

I.e. 7 L / 100km = (235.2 divided by 7) = 33.6 mpg

or 25 mpg = (235.2 divided by 25) = 9.4 L / 100km

Want a cookie ? I don't see anything bad about it, if it has km/mph for speedometer, why not for mpg.

Changes the speedo rather than the fuel economy readout. It seems to be the most recent thread and better than starting a new one.
