Audi R8 thoughts?

I pondered this about a year ago. Looking at some used ones, I could have "afforded" one, but would have had to sacrifice a lot to own one.

Would still buy the V8 engine, no one except people who know cars are going to know. And if any peasant tried to mention "But it's a V8, you loser", I'd laugh and spit in their plebeian face.

If I hung out with the super car crowd or did lapping events with them, the v10 fits, and you can say it's a mini-lambo.
If I didn't, the v8 is more than enough, saves some money so you can afford to drive it more often. Tires aren't cheap.

Yeah, I honestly think the V8 is more than enough car for me. The price difference especially when buying second hand is huge. The v10 really only draws me in because of the sound...the added power is nice but not a necessity for me at all.

I don't really do the whole car club thing, only hang out with close friends that are into cars but we don't go to meets or anything like that. And as Cole said I couldn't care less about their opinions, but the V10 does have its perks...Luckily I have plenty of time to decide.

Personally I never was a fan of the looks of the R8. It is like they are trying to hard or something (not that I would kick one out of my laneway though)

Love the new look of the R8, but no option for a manual is a big no-no. All those fancy paddle shifters are great and all, just not what I want. I'd have to get the older R8 in this case if I were in a position to choose

I love the R8. It is very capable and drives exceptionally well. The V8 is plenty. It does everything so well that on track is is almost boring. It's absolutely wonderful.

You're probably not too far off. Sadly I go through cars often...if I make it five years I'm doing good ha ha. There's just too many cars I like, maybe I'll start leasing lol

I agree I'd have to go with an older one as well because I'd want a manual, the price difference helps also lol. I would definitely try the paddle shifter first though.

I can not criticize since if I didn't put so many miles on a car I would be changing on a regular basis as well. It just cost way to much to take a two year old car with 100K miles and try to trade in for something else so I remain realistic in what I can do.


You may have been joking about the lease but for anybody that plans to change every 3 or 4 years anyway that is really a great option. Sure you are not getting anything back but a car is not an investment anyway. If I did not put on the miles I do that is exactly what I would be up to. Every 3 years I would be into the next thing I wanted to drive and know that if I got bored then the next is just around the corner anyway.

Oh no I was seriously considering it. With the R8 it would probably be harder to do, as I would likely try to get one a few years old due to the huge price difference. If I go new for my next car though I think I will lease. Definitely makes the most sense with my car history ha ha

I think the V8 is the better car. It is possible to match the V10s power if you were willing to mod it, and it's so much lighter.

V10s are sweet though!

Two of my friends had V8 ones. One of them traded into a Gallardo, the other swapped to a 911 Turbo after a while. The common complaint was that the V8 just isn't *that* fast.

I drove a Gallardo w/ paddle shifters in an Auto X event and honestly I felt like that detracted from the otherwise amazing experience. My hand needs to hold a stick

If you plan to track it at all, go V8. Lighter. Cheaper. Will be more than capable for mere mortals. Street only? V10.

Yeah the weight difference is rather drastic. I think the V8 will likely be more than enough power for me, especially with a few bolt on's

glad to hear it and I agree. Nothing against autos it is just what I am use to.

Yeah, I know I'd at least want to do occasional track days. I think I will likely end up getting a V8 when the time comes with a manual. Who knows though...there are so many neat cars coming out/rumored to come out. Right now though I still think I'll likely get an R8
