How to doughnut/drift with the AT

So after reading for a bit I get the impression that everyone here is a pro driver and this is just one more car in their long line of badass cars. I however am a novice and this is my first car even capable of driving aggressively.

I feel like a turd asking but can anyone give me some tips for breaking the back end loose in a controllable fashion? I've managed to turn off the VCS and Trac and spin around wildly in a parking lot but nothing even close to controllable.

Should I leave it in normal drive? Manual mode? trac all the way off? VCS Sports mode? Normal Sports mode?

Sorry for asking so many questions. (For the record once I can get the time and money I do intend to attend a HPDE but that is a ways off and I'd like to have some fun before then.)

I know you said you're interested in an HPDE down the road, but you can jump into autocross for a lot cheaper. Find your local SCCA chapter, sign up for an autocross (dirt cheap, $35 or less), and focus on learning car control. In the process of learning how to drive fast (which is almost always going to be tidy and controlled) you'll become intimately aware of when your car breaks free and how to reign it back in when it does so.

This. Do any practicing at a track or AutoX event and not only will you get a better understanding if your car, you won't hit anything/get in trouble with the authorities.

I also suggest watching videos on YouTube of people demonstrating track driving an even drifting (Chris Harris has some great videos) to gain a better understanding of driving at the limits.

I've been watching a few but I've been unable to find anything for a RWD AT specifically.

Moto posted a video on his facebook. He had no problems drifting his AT or doing donuts. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=3845476531695

No there's at least two of us. I'm a huge tech geek, but I have absolutely no interest in Facebook.

That said, I was able to watch the video fine without having an account.

If you want to drift, why not sign up for a drift day in a nice open parking lot? It might be tempting to try and learn on your own on the sly in some out of the way place but if you're really into it you ought to just dive in and do it properly and safely from the get -go. Not worth risking your car, your license, your safety or ore peoples' safety.

Also, might want to check out the Drift Bible on YouTube for some beginner pointers.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPQyQgyuNMI&feature=youtube_gdata_player"]The Drift Bible (How to drift for starters/pro's) with the Drift King (FULL HQ) - YouTube[/ame]

Drifting's the type of thing you can only really 'get' with tons of practice. Start slow, enjoy the journey.

I say that as a track guy who sucks at drifting

Probably because it's some media marketing and data collection tool that the masses have unwittingly sucked up like a jelloshot made with 151

The drift bible is a great source of knowledge. Watch that, attend some drift days, and just practice as much as possible.

Once you feel the rear end of the car starting to come around, just gently counter-steer.
