All manual transmissions rattle to some degree when idling in neutral. That's just the nature of the beast and this car does not hide any noises. You have to decide if it's just rattle or if it's a cyclic thump-thump-thump sound.

If you do have it checked, please let us know what you are told. Do you live in Portland? We're having an impromptu little meet tomorrow.

sorry about the delay, someone dropped a big box on the highway and this happened... lol

anyways this is the cabin sound, i couldn't really get a better sound quality
you can hear the sound better around 11second mark and 30second mark, probably have to use a earphone

Uggh, I've been meaning to get back to this thread. One particularly cold morning I heard exactly the same sound captured in your first recording. It's just normal manual transmission noise. Google "neutral rollover."

I can't hear anything other than the sound of wind on the second recording.

makes sense, it only happens when the car is in neutral position

is there a way to stop that sound? pretty obnoxious inside the cabin

Nah. No sound damping for the light sports car. If it's particularly bad you might be able to get the transmission replaced under warranty. A couple people here have been successful. It's just an annoyance though, like the crickets.
