try 220 hp well over half the FRS/BRZ HP...im really struggling with this decision...

I wasn't talking about the FRS/BRZ.

So what the world doesent revolve around you, your word is not bond others should consider the Mustang the FT86/FRS/BRZ's its most viable comp.Whether you or anyone wants to admit it the Mustang is stellar performance car its very real that these 2 cars will be compared and crossshopped and its not gonna go away because you wanna turn a blind eye to it....

Dude, relax...

I never said my opinion should matter to anyone else.

My point was that people should buy a car they personally connect with.

Condescension aside, the live axel may have easily proven it self 46 years ago. But it's 2012 and on a high performance vehicle, you'd expect IRS-- it'd be better for 'Performance Driving.' I've seen modified mustangs which still retain the live axel and do quite well. I'm just saying i don't think it'd be much more expensive for Ford to add it to the Mustang, as most if not all competition has it. It is proven to handle winding roads and high speed corners better.

Which GT40 are you talking about? Is there a GT40 Mustang? Because the GT40s that spanked Ferrari at LeMans had IRS.

maybe he did come off a little strong but he brings up good points i think. i dont know why you think irs wouldnt be that much more expensive. just go try and buy control arms for any car and tell me how that goes. not to mention that irs adds weight which isnt ideal (i admit the added unsprung weight from a live axle isnt the best either). i think you can buy a new mustang with irs but its something over 5k to do so.

please show me where it is proven that irs is proven to handle better. its not that i dont agree with that but its just that i think its a relatively small piece of the puzzle. coming from a miata i could chastize the frs for having horrible weight balance, high center of gravity, too much weight and say it is proven that double wishbone is better than machphersons...but i dont because we all know that the frs is a formidible car and probably better than a miata in stock form

The live axel reduces weight....1 of the reason the Camaro is such a boat well 1 of the reasons the Mustang is lighter than all the pony cars...even the Vette has leaf springs is it stoppin it from being a primetime performer?Old tech does not mean its not still affective tech...for instance the V6 was still 1.5 seconds faster around the course than the BRZ and faster than everything in its class in the LL and even faster than the STI...

I'm not saying the Mustang isn't formidable. In fact, i think i was just in another thread (or perhaps earlier in this thread) where i was defending the Mustang from someone who called it "Rubbish." I don't think the Mustang is rubbish-- i think it's awesome. I only wish it had IRS so it'd be better on the track and have the same up-to-date technology as every other car. Although it has to be said that the Mustang's Live Axel is likely the best one ever. But you really have to dive into the suspension to get great handling from it-- stock, the car's handling is unbalanced and unoptimized.

You see, these American company's idea to battle unbalanced handling is to just ramp up the horsepower. Bumble your way through the corners praying for a straight-away, and once you hit a straight away, pedal to the metal. Both the Mustang and Corvette are notorious for oversteer-- especially the Corvette. It exhibits snap oversteer, even though the transmission is in the back. The Camaro is a bit more composed going through corners, but the rotation of it's immense weight really does it in-- like you said.

And i would expect the V6 Mustang to beat the BRZ-- it has 50% more power. That's it's hat-trick.

that doesnt prove anything about the live axle. it isnt even the current mustang so as far as these conversations go it doesnt prove anything about anything. all you have shown is that a) you treat top gear as fact b)the old shelby is slower than the old roush (which probably isnt as much to do with the actual suspension design as it is execution not to mention the lack of a limited slip)

i fail to see the logic when compared against a simlarly powered m3 it runs a similar lap time and yet people praise the m3 and criticize the mustang. if you put 500 hp in an frs im sure you would find its suspension lacking too

Well then I guess we've reached an impasse. No big deal.

That Mustang is sweet and seems like a better deal.
You won't have a flat spot torque, misfit body panels or road noise.
