Throw out bearing. Also called a release bearing. It's the bearing that pushes in the clutch fingers when you push down on your clutch pedal.

No way!!

This is exactly what my dealer thinks the issue is!! Thanks for confirming what that meant. They said that when they got it on the ramp they could def hear it clunking. I said but how come i can't hear it when going quicker and they said you wouldn't over engine noise etc..They said they will try to do the work under warranty but it might be down to wear from previous owner and in that case will need to get the money off the dealer i bought the car from..

I did a test tonight on my fathers rough drive and it's not really felt through the steering but just the clutch tbh. To the post above /\ i'm going to test also a 15 plate Giallo edition they have as a demo car and see if it makes the noise

'look for a car at the dealership to test drive'

Ps love the fact you have a Pantera!


Just thinking about this TOB issue...if it was that why can i only hear it/feel it over rough roads at low speed and not when on a smooth roads at low speed. Surely i would hear it all the time at low speed? Also i hear this noise the most with clutch down so not engaged..

I still don't get how my issue of hearing and feeling the knock through the clutch pedal over rough roads at low speed has got anything to do with the TOB?? my gearbox generally feels fine apart from being a bit notchy when cold..

Thanks for the info Tcoat. Well my dealer definitely thinks this is the issue and will try and do it under warranty but i think the knocking sound/feeling at low speeds is a different issue perhaps..

I would agree with you as it does not match the listed symptoms. Pretty hard to guess what else it could be though.

Google for info on throwout bearings and automotive clutches. Then let's discuss any specific questions you may have. Based on the generality of your question I think this is the best approach.

Well I've had a look and symptoms of grinding when depressing the clutch seem to be TOB issues but i'm not getting this at all

My bad for not being clearer. Check out some pictures to notice how the clutch release mechanism sits right in between the flywheel/clutch and the transmission. It's not exactly part of either.

When you press the clutch, the TOB moves forward, pushing in the pressure plate fingers. Anything out of line or rolling unevenly will be felt pushing back at your foot. A hydraulic connection between the pedal and the clutch is a mechanical connection as much as any other.

Consider ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) If you haven't ever felt it kick in, you should familiarize yourself with it. Find a safe place to try locking the brakes. 10 MPH is plenty. Just stomp on the brakes and feel the kickback. That's all hydraulics.

Let me know if any of that doesn't make sense or if I'm not even addressing your question.
