What are my options for half cages? Are there standards I need to abide by? I'm just a weekend track junkie. My skill level is beginning to mature and I want to make sure I'm building safety mods also.

I'm interested in cage, seats, harness, hans device. What resources are available? Any recommendations for one-stop shopping/installer?

Thanks

@CSG Mike

I am thinking about purchasing the ARP brake duct/hose kit for my track biased FRS. Do you have any experience with these or anything like them? Are they worth it?

Sure do. It works. Well.

It's not a BBK, but you can re-use it with the AP Sprint kit.

Firstly, I've read through the entire thread over the past few days, what a treasure trove of community-driven track development and contribution for the twins. Thanks CSG Mike for your persistence and consistence, and everybody else for your contributions and questions.

Secondly, a track related question or two(with background):
I'm currently running e85 with a customized OFT tune and JDL UEL headers. I'm really happy with the torque dip improvements and the moderate boost in performance. I'll have an oil cooler and will swap in track pads, XP10's or PMu Club Racers. I'll be on stock tires until those are gone, then will upgrade to something in the TW200 range, 215 or 225 in width.

Do the tracks in SoCal(various willows and wallas) have e85 on-site or is it a BYOF situation? If BYOF, would 20 gallons be enough for 1 day? I know there are lots of variables, just looking for approximations; 10,25,50 gallons? I know e85 can be subject to the long left turn fuel starvation problem, so staying near topped off is ideal.

Is 86CUP going to be running in 2016? I just got my FR-S in mid-2015 and love the idea of spec-class racing. The Miata has been a good spec for a long time but I'm really excited that our platform is growing into a similar role.

Chuckwalla has gas but not e-85. Fill gas cans at Desert Hot Springs on the way out.

It is BYOF. Are you flex fuel or permanent E85? Virtually every OFT tune I am aware of is not flex.

20 gallons + a full tank will most certainly be enough to get you to the track, and finish the day, but you may need to drive home on 91, depending on how far you live, and how confident you are with the throttle pedal.

E85 starvation on long left turns is a problem that has been solved, for the most part. It is a pricier solution, but not an issue with the right equipment.

86CUP's 2016 rules and schedule will be announced soon; we're still hammering out details.

FYI, you can 70 gallons of E85 in the car comfortably (no stacking), while still having all the tools you need for a weekend in the car. Don't ask me how I know this.

If you're going to be doing this regularly, I highly recommend you swap your OFT for Ecutek, and Flex Fuel. Running E50 at the track will make the E85 go much further, and give you the majority of the benefit of running E85.

Driving is what I do, and helping others learn to truly enjoy and appreciate driving is my goal. Let us know when you want to order all the track prep stuff

I'm currently running permanent e85, though I can always swap to 91 if needed. I am staying on top of the FlexFuel threads for OFT so once that has been hammered out, I may do the adjustments and mods needed. I totally agree that e50 would be a nice bridge to most of the performance benefit from the ethanol while also taking into account fuel availability.

As for the fuel starvation problem, is the solution different pickups or a fuel pump? or...?

I'll be visiting my finances for the new year and expect to be placing an order for a full fluid change(diff, trans, engine, brake) and some track pads. I think after that I'll be ready for a full day of track time learning and fun!

Thanks for the quick replies!!

Different (expensive) fuel pump, or hydramat, or both.

An external surge tank was always available, but i DO NOT recommend one in a street car. It is a fire hazard.

Would that pump be a Walbro?
