This is a perfect example of not researching what you want costing you money.
You have a catless header with a loud catback, and removed the only other restriction. A stock catback with some nice tips should make the volume much more reasonable, or swapping the catback for something quieter, (Greddy Supreme SP, Invidia Q300, Perrin 2.5", HKS Legamax, FT86 Speed Factory, etc.) You can do a lot, but if you do catless headers expect having to work hard to keep the volume down, or very, very loud. I would start with the stock catback since that has the least restriction. If it sounds good, leave it. If it's too quiet, swap the J2 for another option. This is all a part of 'tuning' a car to your liking. If a part is too much, you didn't research, or the wrong idea about a part. Try and ride along in cars to find out what you like.

Actually afraid? Damn I must be getting old. I for one love the unrestricted rumble, sharp raspy note and machine gun cold starts... My neighbors, not so much😅😅😅
------------- In any case, I have stock exhaust parts taking up space and would be willing to take that loud set up off your hands😁 |

The tune is going to have very little effect on volume of noise from an axle back exhaust. You're better off running the stock cat-back with an aftermarket front pipe than the stock front pipe with an aftermarket cat-back. There's more power held back by the front pipe than the cat-back.

I had a crazy stupid extremely loud exhaust with an ace header, catted resonated front pipe, and Corsa cat back. I sold the Corsa and got the invidia q300. It sounds great now, not that loud at all. The stock cat back was quiet too, but it sounded like crap. Very buzzy, plus it is ugly. I am extremely happy with the q300, great purchase!

Yes they make one for the BRZ/FR-S and I have it. Check it out in my build thread if you'd like.

Update: I put back the stock front catted pipe. Noise level is down, but still driving on freeway 3-4k rpm still makes it uncomfortable. Only when gassing though, there's that raspy noise that gives me a pressure head feeling. The midpipe can't be replaced back to stock because that won't fit the j2 exhaust system.
So now it's either put back stock exhaust or remove the Tomei headers....any opinions? I did do some research but didn't hear much about noise level of j2 tunes being too loud for the users. So either they didn't have headers like mines or....maybe my ear drums are getting old. |

I was thinking if getting http://www.furiouscustoms.com/toms-b...s-subaru-br-z/ . + front pipe . Shouldn't produce any raspy noise? Hopefully...hate that's raspy noise above 3000k

I've been doing a lot more research now. The Q300 exhaust system seems to produce no rasp, even with full catless setup. Very nice....very safe with the sound point.
Vs the Tom barrel W...looks distinct. It's an axel back so keep all pipes stock it shouldn't be anywhere that bad as this j2 exhaust. I drive long trips needless say at high speed bringing rpms to 4000+ so noise and esp rasp is big factor. Low drone and loud is ok but that rasp makes my head want to split. Wonder if anyone can comment on the tom W pipes with UEL headers, any raspy at high rpm? I've learned my lesson. Good thing the j2 wasn't that much |

So finally: Tomei UEL headers and stock pipes, exhaust. Almost quiet like factory, can hear headers flow at higher RPM. Prob take advice from those and get the Q300! thanks everyone.
