So I was recently in an accident my thread is on here somewhere and ever since then my power steering has been acting up. It finally got into the body shop today. Was wondering if anyone else had issues with the power steering? My fluid levels were fine and the only time the power steering would cut out is if I was drifting in it and it would cut out after that but could be reset by restarting the car.

Did the warning light illuminate on the dash indicating the electric assist was overworked/overheated?

How do you know you have enough power steering fluid...?

Well maybe the reservoir wasn't power steering fluid lol I then assume this is electric assist? The light on the dash did come on but It was only one or two drifts so I don't see how it is overworked or overheated.

You just check it ...... silly ......

If the fuse isn't blown ....... you have enough ......

OP, maybe you should take it into a dealership, rather than the body shop, to have it checked out .....

Lol thanks humfrz always giving the best advise. I second taking it to a dealership.

Now on a more serious note I do have a local friend whos power steering cuts out randomly about once a month on average and its going to kill him the way he drives but the dealer can't replicate it so they won't do anything about it and turning the car off resets the codes apparently. Please let me know what you find. Thanks

If it was on the drivers side, it's probably the brake fluid master cylinder with clutch fluid as well. This car has no power steering fluid

our cars have no power steering pumps or even power steering fluid. It's an electric motor (EPS). That's the only reason why they're picking on you

I figured as much being only 21 years old the cars I've worked on are much older mainly my Srt4 and my dads torino which obviously don't have electric steering

As a future note almost all modern cars post 2013 will have EPS, plainly for efficiency space wise and with no pump it's less of a drag on the engine, also the latest systems weigh much less than any traditional hydraulic power steering. Mazda, Nissan, Toyota's entire lineup for the most part all use EPS now.

Never driven a foreign vehicle until this one. No wondering this steering is so light and my SRT4 steering feels like 100lbs

after driving a car without power steering and a quick rack and pinion (1986 MR2 with a quaife), power steering is like a godsend lol. it's not that bad at speed. it only sucks at low speed when in a parking lot trying to parallel park

For sure yet my srt4 has a terrible turning radius as well lol damn euro truck axles

Could of done something to move the steering rack or bend something in the steering wheel shaft. But it seems like a dealer diagnoses is best.
