I'll take either of these two over a Corvette.

I'm serious. You can lecture me on how any C7 Corvette, let alone the Corvette Z06, is so much faster, and I'll still take either of the pony cars over them, because in my opinion, theses cars are unique and appeal to me more than any plain Vette.

Why do you think I have my FR-S? Why do you think most of us have a twin in the first place when we could just as easily have had something faster? I got mine because it appealed to me more than a WRX, a Miata, etc.

A Corvette may or may not be an all-around better car performance wise, but there's other factors besides performance, and so it isn't unreasonable for anyone to think a GT350R or the Z/28 is better than a Corvette for them.

These two cars in particular have raised the bar far beyond the pony car realm. Even the alpha SS is breaking new ground at it's price point. Dollar for dollar a 350R is everything that a Z51 is albeit a couple hundred pounds heavier. I personally think that it's 65K price tag is maxed for the category and the Z28 is overpriced at MSRP.

Exactly. Certainly the lighter corvette has a significant performance advantage on a track. Most buying these muscle cars are looking for jacks-of-all-trades. It's all about function and driving experience, not all out performance. If you're driving these cars on the street and telling yourself it's not fast enough or cornering well enough, you should be arrested

The corvette has room for groceries and luggage. I would say more than a Camaro actually with a more open trunk but its kind of a moot point. Sales simply mean more people can afford 40-50K than 60K+ because lets face it.... if they were the same pricetag unless you NEEDED four seats why would you take a Camaro or mustang over a corvette?

Please dont speak out of your @55.

I own a 2015 Z51 Corvette manual.

I'm not gray haired and my kids still live at home and have not graduated high school yet. Many of my corvette friends are in the same boat and <45 years of age.

I get a ton of groceries in my Vette (more than enough to feed a family of 4), plus lots of other things. There is much more cargo room in a Vette than you are aware of. Sure there are no back seats, but I like that. Back seats in a Mustang and Camaro barely qualify as usable anyways (unless you are a small child).

As for well rounded its always a matter of opinion. When it comes to track duty the Vette is more well rounded. When it comes to daily driver duty the Camaro/Mustang are more well rounded.
Both platforms can perform adequately (or even moreso) at the other task. My corvette is my daily driver.

As for the car and driver article, read it and it goes into why there could be variances.
Remember in 2014 the engine was a brand new one and its had 2 years of refinement going on.
I'd imagine 2016 Vettes coming off the line are making more HP than the ones in 2014.
Also note the Camaro tested was a manual while the Vette tested was an auto. You get more HP loss in autos.
There are tons of other factors besides those points. But even if the Camaro is making more HP off the line than a Vette they are the same engine and the Vette can achieve the same numbers.

No need to bash one or the other Vettes, Camaros, and Mustangs are all great cars.

You can get a real bargain on a Vette if you know what you are doing.

I paid $56k OTD on mine brand new.

You got me all wrong. I am not bashing the Vette. I think it is a great car. However, the Camaro and Mustang are more pratical cars for most people. I was just questioning the definition of "well rounded car". A car that is the better track car is not what the majority of people would consider the most "well rounded car".

You and your friends are atypical Corvette owners: http://autoweek.com/article/detroit-...empt-get-gen-x
I didn't exactly speak out my A$$.

And for all the "gray hairs" out there that may get their panties in a knot. I am probably older than you.

Maybe just me, but I feel like Ford is milking the flat plane crank V8 thing with a semi flawed flat plane crank V8 engine. The crank is heavy, no dual intake plenums, no equal length exhaust runners. (Yes I am quoting another video).

Z/28 for me but I work for GM and am biased.

Nothing on the market sub 100k competes with the new 350R. All cars have advanced and the market is a lot higher quality then in the past, but Ford is running away with it.

Wouldn't the Viper and Z06 have the upper hand at most tracks?
