With the high mileage that people get out of plugs, its not uncommon to have plugs that refuse to come out of an aluminum head when people do get around to changing them. With the way the boxer is packaged, it would be an engine out job at minimum.
It's been done without moving the engine.

Hi Jawn! It says 16 inch on the tires, don't want to add expenses by changing rims so I'll stick to 16's and find some semi decent tires. A girl that drives a gt how cool is that.

The whole "stock rims are horrible" thing is more an American sentiment I do believe.
The stock rims in many places are indeed 16" so the 17s are actually and option or a up sell.

For the street I've run the stock Primacy HP's, Dunlop Direzza DZ102's and now BFG G-Force Comp2's. The BFG's have been the best tire of the three by far for ride comfort, ultimate grip, turn in and road feel. I have no problem recommending those for the street and probably the occasional casual track day/AutoX.

I guess. I kinda like my stock rims. I think I will start a "Stock rim build" thread in the spring hahaha!

I was speaking of removing a stuck plug. It is not that uncommon with people putting over 60,000 miles on the original set of plugs nowdays.

With the cost of labour today, the fix is to chase the thread in-situ using a tool such as this one:

Because of the stage of a cars life when this might happen also puts it's value at the point where "If the head has to come off, just scrap the car?

With the boxer, this repair would not be an option. The engine would have to come out. For a 10 year old car, chances are that the labour to re-and re the engine will exceed the value of the car at that point.

Moral of the story: Change your plugs every few years.

By the way, the linked thread confirmed something that I suspected, plugs on this car are a nightmare for the average person to change.
