Ecutek | Noob

Alright guys, I've used Hondata and I've used CobbAP and the Ecutek makes no sense to me. I purchased from Moto East and got it today, was in the mailbox from yesterday. Does it not come with prebuilt OTS maps? I can't find anything about it, I miss my accessport.

Ecutek is a Flashing and Tuning system

Consists of a OBD to USB Cable and a Dongle (licience key for Ecutek software) you plug into computer to log and flash tune files to the ECU in your car.

The Cable/dongle is about $350 or so

You also need a software licence code which is the ECU licience to allow you to flash one licience per car requred (this is separate to dongle/hardware key above)
This licience cost about $300

Then you need a tune file from a tuner to flash cost varies from about $200 upwards depending on mods. This tune is locked to the dongle code that comes with cable so the tune can only be flashed with that dongle in place.
The tune file is encryped by tuner (very few have open maps) so all you can do is flash the tune not edit or modifiy it.

If you modify your own map starting with the stock maps then that is free for you to do and the tunes you make are open to you.

No free tunes with ecutek, the rom files that come with system are just stock roms(tunes)

Best talk to the tuner that sold you the ecutek kit hopefully you bought all the bits you need.

It a great system but very locked down with licensing.

The closest thing to an Access Port for the cars is an openflash tablet , which is very similar to cob AP and comes with a suite of free tune files for various mods but you can also mod these yourself as they are open.

Thanks for the detailed response. I've had an Evo and an STi so the last 6 or more years I have been using the Cobb AP running the Stage 1/2 tunes then when getting full bolt ons getting tuned. This seem much more inefficient, but I got the full kit, license USB and dongle (USB to OBDII) I'm familiar with reflash tunes just never seen one not come with any tunes with it out of the box.

Did you not pay for a tune from Moto-East?

You can use the OFT OTS maps if you desire or make your own....

ECUtek is just a flashing device, they don't make any tunes for you.
