That was my other thought, but I don't want it to be too mild either. I know that sounds silly, but I'm looking for that sweet spot between obnoxiously loud and obviously tuned, and mild mannered, sounds like stock.

An axle back will give you a nice sound. I've got the Borla with a UEL header, and hfc front pipe, it sounds pretty good. Very mild though.

Axelback is useless and you will end up spending more money unless you buy a catback.

Full exhaust, w/ UEL, overpipe/catted front pipe, and Invidia N1 = stupid loud. Bought an HKS dual resonated front pipe to see how that'll calm it down, but haven't put it on yet.

when you put on the FP, let me know how it sounds and if it does calm it down some. I just have UEL with N1 and I can't bring myself to take it off just because it sounds so good. it is, however, definitely asshole-loud.

Haha it sure is!

I'm headed to an event with PA86 today, so maybe I'll have time to put it on with them!

If just the header and the axle back are too quiet for you, you can always get a catted front pipe to liven it up even more.

Can you explain? The only difference with catback and axleback is the midpipe I thought. So the majority of the sound will be dictated by the actual muffler(s), which are part of both catback and axleback systems.

But correct me if I misunderstand.

Purchase an axelback and leave the rest of the exhaust factory. Unless going to a e85 tune you'll just be throwing money our the window. Save for a real setup with power like SC or Turbo.

Correct, I have no plan to chase 2-3 HP by spending money on FP/OP.

My only goal with a catback/axleback is to get a better exhaust note to complement the UEL, and to get some better looking tips.

Do you have a suggestion for which axleback/catback?

The quality is absolutely garbage, but this is the only video I have of my BRZ's exhaust. Setup was a JDL UEL header and the TopSpeed Pro-1 axle back.

I have seen Catted UEL headers and the exhaust note is always a personal preference. If you go with a catted header, you'll save money not flashing the ECU and void of warranty. The cost of Catted header will be higher so no real money saving once the deed is done. just bolt up and done, O2 spacers suck.

UEL gives more low end torque
EL gives more top end
Factory headers aren't perfect so I wouldn't call the factory header a EL either. Maybe a very-very mild UEL

Most companies dont sell a mid pipe. Therefore you have to spend more cash trying to find a mid pipe if not you end up selling the axel and buying a catback.

I've got a catless UEL and getting an OFT as well, which I will install together. All I'm looking for was the cat-back or axle-back options haha. But thanks anyway!
