I switched to a 15 GT premium performance pack last month. Zero regrets. Once you get used to the larger car it handles about 90% as well as the BRZ. I took it to the mountains two weeks ago and it blew me away how well it did. I'm in a better financial situation than I was when I got my 86, and dealers are giving incredible deals on leftover 15's. I got mine for 34 OTD down from 39.5 sticker. I always wanted a v8 mustang growing up, and now I can afford one comfortably. It's also very easy to drop weight off the car. You can drop 60 pounds with lightweight wheels in stock 19" performance pack size, 8lb by going to PSS tires when your stock ones are done, and 28 lb in rotors by going to some 2 piece ones. As well as 30lb off the car with a catback. Very easy to get the car to the high 3500's weight wise. But its not for everyone, and you have to know it will not be like an 86. I loved my BRZ, but the cost and unreliability long term of a turbo led me to drop less money than a turbo kit on a down payment for a GT and keep my payments the same as my BRZ Ltd. Insurance went up a whopping 10 bucks, but its liveable. OP, you have to weigh what you want out of a car, what additional expenses (you can get 2 sets of PSS for an 86 compared to 1 for the GT) you may encur. You have to think what you really want out of a car as a DD and weekend track toy. I am 100% happy so far, but make sure you will be with whatever you choose, because swapping cars every few years is a terrible financial move IMO.

Hey I live in SW Florida, I understand you feeling but sometimes I go to the local autox in Buckingham and have fun there with the car, my car is still stock after 2 years sometimes I want power but not in a rush to mod plan to keep for lots of years hopefully
If budget is high get the new mustang 350r that thing is a beast and looks really nice. For straight line speed a build something else like sleeper Starion or 90 sports car |

I almost pulled the trigger on one recently. I get a stupid corporate discount on them and can pick a GT up for around 25-26k. The power is nice, but the weight is VERY noticeable. If i have any more issues with the BRZ (so far so good) it could push me towards the dark side.

Wow. We are comparing apples and oranges here..! Well both sport cars for sure. I have 3 mustangs in my family and owned one for 10years. Both are great cars. Either one will have you smiling! Of course there are pros and cons to each and you've thought of that. I am not sure how long a supercharged BRZ/FRS would last but spending another 10k on the BRZ/FR-S could be quite appealing assuming decent longevity, durability and smog legality. I would dream of being able to put a forced induction system on our car and remove about 200-350 lbs...: ) Anyways enjoying either one will be no problem. I just went from one world to the other (i.e. mustang to FR-S) Be careful with that much power, a few mods with that and whoa, hold on...!!!

If you are financially able to get the mustang gt, then go for it. To me its not a good financial move if you are still paying payments on your frs/brz and put a down payment on it. If you get a different car, its like the payments and down payment went down the garbage. Again, this is how I see it, but if the want for a mustang gt is greater than the thousands you put on your frs/brz, then go for it. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, I'm just giving you another perspective. Good Luck with you decision

I would just trade it in for a Mustang.
If you turbo our cars, there goes the reliability. A proper turbo setup costs more than just the kit. People don't factor in suspension, brakes and many other components that would be working harder with more power. Things will begin to get more strained and break down. With the Mustang you will have a way more reliable set up and a warranty. Plus it will more likely be more comfortable for you. I personally say, if you doubt something, don't buy it or move on. I own the last Gen Mustang currently with a full bolt on 4.6L V8, cams etc and I am looking to go to the FRS/BRZ. Granted this is not the current version of Mustang with the 5.0 or the ecoboost but speaking strictly on power it is very nice being able to just haul ass without down shifting, easily spinning into 3rd. My car has gone high 12's in the 1/4 and while I do enjoy the power and speed I am ready to go the other direction and grab one of the twins for the sake of slowing down, better gas mileage and entry price to get into a slightly used one. I have owned everything from a built Boxster to a built Viper, 370Z etc and I am no longer interested going extremely fast.
Food for thought. But you cant go wrong with a Stang'. Even a 3.7L with steep gears will blow you away with its get up and go. |

The cars make 265-287 whp/ 230 wtq depending on MT or AT and a exhaust. Nobody in Atlanta with this kit has a blown engine. Personally, if I go F/I one day this is the route I'll go because I don't care for more than 280 whp in a 2800 lb car anyways. |
