Funny though when I was 19 in 2006 I bought my first car, an 05 Corolla S, payed 350$ a month. Last car before my credit got destroyed I was paying 90$ for my abarth and 140$ for my wrx. Credit makes a big diff, being underage and no credit sucks. Which is why a kids first car shouldn't ever be expensive or special, and parents buying kids cars and paying their insurance IMO sits them off into the real world horribly.

My first car at age 17 was a 1994 Camaro Z28 with a 5.7 liter LT1 V8. It had far more power than a FR-S/BRZ, a solid rear axle, no traction control, and far more tire-smoking potential. And I drove it perfectly safely for years. I was never involved in an accident of any kind, and never got a single speeding ticket in it. It's all about the intelligence and responsibility of the driver. If you're not an asshat, it will be a fantastic first car. If you are, well, all bets are off. |
