Having just found out that they don't even coincide with the turn signal I feel like it's pretty useless. I read that it was mandated to reduce collisions at an angle blah blah but what the hell is the point if they don't even blink?

I just changed mine out for clear with amber bulbs, pretty sure the amber is a requirement in most states but if I can get away with it I might just switch to clear/clear.

Any thoughts?

I always viewed them as another pair of DRLs. So basically, increasing the visibility of your vehicle?

You also need an amber light on the front side or a car and a red light on the back rear of a car, as per the law in Alberta atleast. I think it is so they know what way a car is facing, but IDK haha.

Back when cars came with sealed beam headlights and tail lights, the people at the DOT deemed that cars needed to have a set of lights that were visible from the perpendicular. The end.

The side marker light/reflector is there make it easier to see the side of a car, and the reflector is there for all of the f*&%wits who can't be bothered and/or remember to turn on their lights at all. I think that the light is more of a formality, but there is absolutely a purpose for the reflector.

With that said, I think that the could have very easily fit them in the headlights, and made them look better. But that is just my two cents.

If your car is registered in VA, you'll fail inspection if you go with clear markers even with amber bulbs.....ask me how I know

IN NJ the bulbs can be Amber or White

I drive a hotlava so the amber doesnt look bad IMO hahaha

I agree, they don't look that bad on Hot Lava. I picked up some smoked markers all the same!
