^^ That's also a result of stronger internals. Get forged 12.5:1 pistons and forged rods and you have a greater margin for error as well.

I don't disagree that it does make tuning a bit more important, but anyone running a turbo setup should want a well tuned engine anyway.

Even with lower c/r, you shouldn't be turning up the boost blindly without the tune being checked to make sure everything is still happy, or having it re-tuned for higher boost.

How many miles can you get out of one tank? I couldn't care less about fuel economy but the tiny gas tank in the twins pisses the shit outta me.

I'd say 20-30% less on a tank of whatever your mpg is now depending on how you drive. BUT e85 is cheaper, so it almost evens out in the end

But having that margin can provide added protection from other failure modes such as Sensor connectors pop loose, hose comes off, Electromagnetic interference, etc.

(I still have a theory about how EMI caused the unexpected acceleration problems witnessed in a certain model recently but thats another story)

Its just how close to "the edge" do you want to run the engine at?
My brother runs a 62 Triumph race car at 13:1 CR.
What do you think would happen to it if it accidentally got filled with non-race gas just one time?
I run a 71 4-cyl boxer race car at 9.5:1 and I can just run premium pump gas all the time.

Good luck, man. I'm sorry to hear this happened to you. You seem like a good sport. Could've happened to anyone especially with our motors, though it discourages me to go FI.

And Mazda has SkyActiv engines with 13.5:1 designed to run on 87 octane. Static c/r isn't the only thing that matters.

Hey guys, I already posted this in the engine, exhaust, transmission section, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if I can use a junkyard motor pulled from an auto car in my manual car? Are there differences that will cause the job to be a headache or is it the same thing?

Yep, car is going back to stock for now. Might do an engine build on the side but I need to be able to drive it in the mean time.

IIRC you'll be fine. The motors are the same manual or auto. What changes between cars and is not interchangeable is the ECU but you'll be using yours so no problems there.

IIRC the billet camshaft blockoff plate, by companies like nameless and raceseng, is only applicable to the manual transmission cars so you may have to remove the associated parts from the automatic motor and replace it with the plate from your blown motor or one of the billet aftermarket ones. Besides that I would guess that the motors are the same but then again I'm no professional at this so you should probably get more opinions first.

Best of luck to you and thank you for sharing your crappy experience for the good of the community.

Found another motor at a good price, but it's out of a 2015 FRS
Wondering if there are any differences between the 2015 and the 2013 engines? I doubt it but I thought I'd ask to make sure it works fine

Yes, slight revisions to several internal parts. Good changes, nothing that you wouldn't want. And nothing that affects swappability. Go for it.
