You looking for a full intake system or just anything that'll be cheap and do the job.

If the later just go with a drop-in filter.

Illinois only uses an OBD reader for their emissions test, with a tune you can pass the test. Unless they do a visual inspection, and see a cat has been deleted, or a sniffer test.

Get a header, get a tune (you're wasting money if you don't do this because the increase in power will be minimal without a tune), and you'll be fine. If you're really worried just hang onto the stock header and swap it back on for the emissions test.

If you're just looking for loud get the Tomei header and a catless front pipe. It's a decent header without spending too much, and you will be obnoxiously loud. Sounds terrible IMO, but if that's what you're into...

Read through this thread. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81493

Cliffs notes: For a street car, EL vs UEL really comes down to what sound you like better. If you're building a race car, then EL is where it's at.

Any time you remove functioning emissions equipment, it's technically against the law. However, many people do it anyway. Installing a catless header is the best bang-for-buck upgrade, but will throw a CEL (and fail emissions) unless you get it tuned.

Stock intake is actually really good. Save your money and just get a drop-in filter.

$500 for an OpenFlash Tablet, which gives you canned/off-the-shelf tunes. Substantially more for a custom ECUtek tune.

I had money in college. But those damn text books were so expensive. I probably could have afforded 60% of my mods if it wasn't for them.

Go with the OFH + OFT. Sales are coming soon so you could get a good deal on those.

none :-) , you will only gain about 3hp over just a drop in filter with an intake.

just buy a dry drop in filter like Apexi or similar for your stock intake, leave the intake alone.

If you on a budget and staying NA , you wont beat catless header, tune and E85 fuel if you have it available, with appropiate tune of course.

OFT plus OFH (you get E85/petrol tunes included with oft device) about $1000.

or Header and Ecutek tune if you have a Ecutek tuner nearby, you can probably get a decient quality header for about $700 and ecutek licience/tune for about $600 with 4 map switch and one can be E85. If you cannot get to ecutek tuner then you need to buy cable for another $400 .
