Do you have a ETA for the cage kits? I'm about to have my car caged and I'm trying to decide if I should wait.

OMG OMG OMG !!!!

"In order to make the best quality parts, we had the interior of the car 3D scanned. We've used this procedure on some other cars in the shop, and while it's expensive, it also gives you astoundingly accurate geometry on the shape of the car."

That is so unfair

You guys impressed me before but now it is official, G-Speed is about to turn the FT86 world upside down !

I cannot wait to see the product you will be able to make with all these data !!

My wish list:

- roll cage kit with data to backup the best design
- seat mounting options... with our without rails but as low as possible.
- 6 points harness hookup for side and lap belts.
- racing floor mats
- cool suit / fire system mounts
- racing dead pedal, stock one is ok but could really be better, may be adjustable.
- lexan naca duct for triangular windows.
- power shutoff switch system

By the way I hope you guys will document which piece of the chassis interior can be removed without structural impact.

There are many piece of metal welded to the chassis that are non structural, only there to allow clips to be placed to hook up trims. For example the center metal strip in the middle of the roof (interior side).

These can strip a little bit of weight but hard for the novice to decide which is important or not.

It'll probably be next Spring before they're available for sale. We're going to design in CAD, then bend the first one by hand to verify, then get them made en masse. If you'd like to get in on the first build, we're happy to do multiple cars at once, but the car would have to be at our shop.

Thanks for the feedback! The roll cage will most likely be designed with the following priorities:

-Rule compliance & safety
-Weight
-Stiffness (Theoretical. We've done the cost/benefit analysis, and torsion testing just won't pay off for this chassis.)

In that order.

Seat mounts are definitely coming. The 3D scanning guys had a little bit of time left over, so they scanned a Racetech 4009HR so we've got an accurate model. We'll figure out the best harness mounts as we're doing that, as well.

I'm not sure we'll do anything with floor boards, it looks pretty smooth as is. Unless it's a super convoluted floor (BMW, etc.) it's just not worth the weight. The dead pedal is a good idea, though, especially seeing how the OEM bracket unbolts from the chassis.

Power shutoff will be integrated with the cage. We're planning on putting in lots of chassis-specific items like power cutoff, electric power steering mount, etc. into the design. It's not going to be the cheapest one out there, but that doesn't mean it won't be worth it. (Is there an over-under on how long until someone points out how much an Autopower cage costs? )

Maybe, that'd be really difficult to quantify. We'll see as we move forward, though.

Thanks guys. That's the idea. So long as you guys keep buying them, we'll keep churning out awesome parts. We're trying to walk the fine line between advanced technology and affordable racing.

Here's the first pass at the cage. We're going to try for an incremented pricing structure, because not everyone will want 8 points, NASCAR door bars, etc. and all that increases cost. We're pretty happy with out this is turning out.

I'll probably make a specific thread in the HPDE/Racing subforum to discuss the cage specifics as we narrow down the details.

please let us know of the link to the HPDE forum.

I am curious about
- the front anchor point, most people seems to weld to the side (chassis frame) instead of the floor.
- knee bar height, it would be nice to keep the use of the HVAC box.
- may be a good idea to add a bend on top of the drivers' head bar, in order to take advantage of the rood line which peaks at that location. Not sure with rules if another bend is ok there.

See 2 shots of Emmanuel Baako, which has the nicest cage design I have seen so far for our US regulation and plenty of clearance. Note the triple bend on the A pilar for extra head clearance. And also the high knee bar that clears the HVAC box.

1. It's already been made taller so it grabs more of the rocker.
2. Ours clears HVAC. Debating making a removable knee bar option to allow for HVAC access after the cage is welded.
3. Nope, not legal. Max 4 bends.

Got a bit done over the weekend. Main hoop is in (with tons of back and forth between Engineering and Fabrication personnel ), along with rear hoop bracing and one crossbar.

Removed some of the wiring from the passenger side rear harness. All the airbag wiring has been removed, so now it's just fuel pump wiring on that side.

We'll make a thread in the HPDE section to talk cage specifics. From a product development standpoint, this is going to be tough to bring to market, so we'll need as much input as possible.

Oh, and we're starting to piece together our forced induction plan. Stay tuned, we've got some exciting stuff coming up.

See the image attached about the tube bend for the headroom.
I am not sure we are talking about the same tube. My proposition is to add a 3rd bend, unless I am missing something

What tube size are you using ? it looks like a big diameter, any reason not to go for smaller tube with thicker walls ? hard to tell in the photo.

From my experience with wiring everything that had a yellow plug can be pulled out.

The audio/radio/amplifier wires are the main solution and take a little more time to identify and remove. But a clean interior is priceless

curious about forced induction

these are the zip tie you need to attach the fuel wires back to the chassis, they fit perfect in the oval holes on the chassis.
