I have still yet to apply for a patent at the ripe age of 18, but I would wager that the time and effort put into "function over form" warrants a patent. |

I don't know, I'm not a car engineer. My options for buying one would be a) keep it the same but lower the price ~5K or b) keep it the same price and add more power and some interior upgrades.

The manufacturer currently makes about $1K a car so I don't think there is any room to bring it down $5K and the price is what it is I am afraid. As far as the more power aspect goes, have you test drove one to see if it needs it?

These are the patents for the BRZ STi prototype design. Subaru patents all of their prototypes. This is nothing new.
Subaru never delivers on their prototypes. The BRZ will not be any different. Its just a patent to protect that design. |

In the US, you can certainly file for a design patent. There is some overlap in what is copyrightable material and patentable material. This is an article of manufacture, so a design patent does apply here. Design patents are subject to a 15 year term.

No, that is a dedicated sports car. And what am I trying for again? Anyway it's what I'm going to buy if it comes out soon. The BRZ is $5K too expensive like I said. I mean reasons why or why not don't really matter, it just is.

I'm no legal expert, I just know on cars that I've worked on the design, patents were gotten on certain parts/mechanisms, but never on the entire car. On another car, the car's shape, logo, name, etc., have gotten copyrights.
