I do a lot of city driving and I average 25.4 mpg but I see guys who talk about getting 28-30 lol the previous owner of my twin told me he would get 28 mpg and he also did a lot of city driving since he would only go to school down the street lol

I got 36 mpg on the 5 hour drive coming home from the dealership. Averaging around 32-33 for the past two weeks, with a typical drive being a couple miles at 30-40mph to get to a 55-65 area for 10 miles or more, then another couple more miles back at neighborhood speeds. Not driving conservatively, but not to-the-wall either... just once in a while..

I get 33-34 but I drive an auto... And I'd imagine I also drive fairly conservative compared to the crowd here...

Still for the miles I put on it (100-120 a day) it's solid.

MPG

I just do. I live in a semi-rural area outside of Boston. No real city driving, but lots of driving between 35-45 mph on country roads in 5th and 6th and some highway driving.

My best is 34.5 mpg actual (36.5 indicated on the speedo) driving 350 miles from Ithaca, NY to just south of Nashua, NH on cruise control at 70 mph.

Note, typical is 30-32 on summer gas and OEM tires, 27-29 mpg on winter gas with snow tires.

How common is torque dip?

Damn you think my mpg would really take that big of. Dip with tires that have a little bit more grip lol @etherdude

I suspect this and chasing mileage ratings are probably the biggest reasons for torque dips in any engine. The dip is probably the range at which the car is being tested for emissions and mileage certifications. Which is why it usually disappears with a few mods like headers and such.

Regarding this. Does the torque seem low or is it just me? 210ish hp @140's.

Anyway, why is there almost no torque dip vs our cars? I see the vtak hitting at 6k and dying at 8ish, but why do our cars dip at 3-4k's?

We get into differences in valve timing and lift. Different head designs. Different emissions targets. This could be an all day discussion as to why the F20C is different from the FA20. It's all of it. Power output is a sum of the components and design that goes into it.

BTW, VTEC as we colloquially know it is due to the two different cam lobe profiles for different RPM ranges. Ironically, in the car that brought us VTEC, the NSX, it was not nearly as peaky and ridiculous as its latter descendants.

That power delivery looks kind of familiar, doesn't it?

Well Honda is known for its low torque. K20z1 states 220hp to crank and 143 ft-lb of torque. Look at the new type R K20c1(turbo) though 306hp to crank and 295 ft-lbs.

In normal day to day driving most people would not even notice it (with MT I have no idea the impact on an AT). I just blow through it and pay no attention.
The torque dip isn't as bad in Canada.
