If you are going catless, the stock muffler will sound like tin can... Quiet though.

This. The stock front pipe should be a little quieter.

restricting the flow with a stock cat kinda defeats the purpose of an excellent flowing header. I do have a high flow cat already. just need to figure out a muffler situation that will quiet this down. But it is worth a try for experimental purposes- when I have time.

I am going with the ace muffler. It will be tested on ACE header/FP equiped vehicles and will be tuned to sound the best combined with these parts. Put on your stock muffler temporarily and also tripple check for exhaust leaks.

I would drive the car for couple of hundred kms/miles as the carbon build up in the header will make it a bit quieter. Like much quieter...with that said however, if it is too loud you might want to look into bolting in a Helmholtz resonator in, or maybe even a nice hotdog resonator (use the perforated one, not the louvered one). You should not have any issues finding something suitable as 2.5 diam are the most common. You can even take the resonator you have out, and replace it with something longer.

I have 2.75 header back and is not that loud (but I have the silencers in). So I am always trying to find a way to take them out and make my exhaust quieter too!

Good luck!

Not exactly so. 2ndary cat in frontpipe doesn't hurt exhaust performance that much as 1st stock one, placed very close to cylinders in exhaust path (to heat up to working temps sooner to ease passing regulations soon after cold start). Many keep stock 2nd cat to pass smog checks in their countries, when highflow one was not sufficient. CSG got wonderful performance out of Type A 350 even with stock everything rest. So i don't see much problems except maybe religious ones due OE being not kosher in putting back stock as temporary interim solution to get noise in check (unless of course it's sold when you got your current aftermarket catback )

What would be your honest recommendation for 2.5" front pipe and cat back. I must do something different. I am considering stock catback. I am also considering just putting stock manifold back on until I can afford something different. I never imagined this header would more than double my volume. I have done many headers on v8 hot rods in the past. I've even done some cat deletes among some of the more modern of them, but nothing has ever been even close to this drastic of a change. Please give me your recommendation, this setup now is going to get me arrested.
A compromise would be your stock front pipe, with ace header, and Corsa exhaust.

Try it, before doing anything that costs money.

Two people now have suggested this. I will make it my next step.

No worries. I suggested it cause that is the likely setup that I will try on my car. (Tanabe concept G catback, stock front pipe and ace header). Fingers crossed it would not be too loud or drone :p

I went to a local guy today, who has a fix for my high volume. The Corsa exhaust has a two piece mid pipe. He is going to make a new front half with a 22" long x 4"diameter straight through resonator that he promises will quiet everything down. This is great news because I won't have to cut up any part of my Corsa system now. Going to go ahead and try the stock front pipe today, just to see. I will report back...

The stock front pipe will work for sure, but I like the idea of a large resonator either on the FP or mid-pipe (or both), as big as one can fit without clearance issue since it seem to be the best solution to cancel out drone. If you can imagine in your mind how an exhaust vibrates under high exhaust loads it's not hard to understand way this works so well and why those track pipes /mufler delete/axlebacks that retain the large factory mid-pipe make such a nice note.

I've actually fabricated a 63mm front pipe with a very long resonator. To be honest, I cannot tell much of a difference in exhaust volume or note between my resonated pipe vs the stock pipe. Though it's not easy to fit such a big resonator on the front pipe.

The ultra quiet front pipe has a 200 cell cat and a resonator in it, the Corsa has a big resonator and a muffler. What now? I daily this car, and I need to quiet it down. Please don't tell me to put the stock cat back on it, they get pretty buzzy. Has anybody had experience with adding another resonator to the system? What about a bigger muffler? @CSG Mike what say you? I have spent a bunch of money on my car, especially on the exhaust, and it is too loud for a track now- let alone the street.
If your exhaust setup is as loud as you say it is, I'll be sad since your exhaust setup is what I wanted for my FRS! I was thinking that with the ACE header, a HFC and Corsa exhaust would've been reasonable... but I guess not. Though, I'm curious to see what you find quiets down the exhaust. Though, I do have one question though, when was it ear bleeding loud? Cruising, acceleration or both?
