FR-S HID upgrade
Hey everyone, I'm looking to upgrade my low beams to HID. I google and found a thread back in 2012, but isn't really much help. I know some people frown against HID, but I can't live without it since my last had factory HID or LED and it was way better and prefer it.
What is the best way to upgrade to HID? What brands does the community recommend? And it's a H11 size correct? Those eBay/Amazon kit any good? And installing it should be pretty simple correct? And what's the best way to not blind other drives? Lol Sorry for all the questions, would like to do it right the first time. Thanks! |

Absolutely no to ebay. Please, no. Other people may say its fine but don't cheap out.
There are a couple of popular products that owners bought around here. Go with the Diode Dynamics HID kit as mentioned above. I have had mine for almost a year and have had no issues. Easy to install, great output.

you won't need to worry about blinding other drivers since the FRS comes with halogen projectors and not reflectors. the output is pretty nice actually even after you install an HID kit in it as long as your headlights are properly aimed (which they should be if you never touched it)
however, if you ever do own a car with reflector housings, never install an HID kit in there as everyone on the road will hate you. even more so if you drive a lifted truck

HID Powerhouse EuroR user here and very happy with them. Huge visibility improvement over stock. 1.5 years later, no issues at all. Got the 4300K, looks OEM. Using their LED products as well for the interior, trunk, side markers, and licence plate.

Sweet, thanks for the info so far.
Now I was reading that the "Squirrel Finder" needs to be modded, is that the projector housing? And does it still need to be pushed down on the 2016 model so I don't blind other drivers? And at what height should the cutoff be at? Thanks! |

as for aiming your headlights, the cutoff should be 2" down from your actual projector height from the floor at around 20 feet away. here's a guide: http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/show...HID-headlights

I didn't touch my "squirrel finders". Never had any drivers flash their high beams at me or give me middle fingers, so I think you'll be fine lol

Ah crude, got the HID installed and the guy pushed down the "Squirrel finder". Is it possible to bend back up? Or is it possible to replace just that piece if I buy it online or from the dealer, or do I need to replace the whole assembly?

there's no need to spend the extra money to fix it. as long as the output isn't affected by what he did, then it is fine.

as long as the cutoff line is straight and has the dip in it, then it's fine. to bring it up, don't bend anything but instead use the headlight adjuster screw behind the headlight assembly. refer to my previously posted link on how to aim your headlights (do it at night, it's a lot easier)
