Until it dies. 100K? 200K 500K? Who knows? No reason a properly maintained engine can't last the life of the car.

I'm unwilling to deal with rotten cars anymore.

If the car is running like a top when my lease is up (Apr 2018) I might buy it with the intent on keeping it, otherwise, I'd only be buying it to flip it.
Just some thoughts in case they help.

1) Are you filling the overflow tank whenever it drops to half? I was doing that and thought my car used coolant, but I realized I was just overfilling it. I let the level drop to halfway and it's been rock solid ever since.

2) If you're tracking the car or running it hard in hot weather, the CEL could have been the coilpack (P0351 or thereabout, depending on which cylinder). If so, it's a common issue. You might just want to have an extra coilpack on hand as it will likely come back eventually. The good news is replacing the coilpack resolves the issue.

Agreed. I seen some 80's car/truck that was properly maintained still running to this day.

As long as its maintained properly, it should last a long time, unless you push it hard everyday.

The overflow tank was dry about a week ago, which it nearly was around this time last year as well. I've added probably about 1-1.25L since I got the car.

P000C, slow cam response. Didn't come back after clear, but still.

Ah that sucks, sounds like you've got different issues than what I had. Wish I could have helped!

I only do 7,000km a year and am seriously in love with the car so honestly see myself keeping it for 5 to 10 years.

Its special to me though as I followed it for years (on this very site) and then was finally in a position to afford one. A year has gone in a blur and, I am no less in love with it now, as the day I bought it.

If a boosted STI version were to come along I'd be tempted to jump ship, but not till at least 5 years had gone by. The only problem I have with that is I would be less tempted to mess with a performance model and that goes against all that the regular model stands for ie to be blank canvas for modification.

Plan A. Boosted daily. (so far so good?) until I get sick of it. By then the car will be worthless to all buyers and even parting it out won't amount to much. I will then crack open a few beers and go full shop retard on the car. Targa top time!

I put down 5-10 because who knows, maybe I'll need a minivan and a small little coupe won't fit my needs any more.
Realistically, 5-10 years.
Unicorn and rainbows-ly, forever and then I'll convert it into a furious dune car once the world's water supply dwindles.
