I can tell if a cat has cats or not just by the smell. It is easy to tell, but in the car you very rarely notice it if at all

Thanks a lot guys for all the comments.

Basically from my understanding, some saw you can notice it, some say you can't, some say only on cold starts, some say you won't notice in car etc....

Point is, it will probably be noticeable from my understanding at some point or another :p

My favorite smell.... if you have at least one cat that smell is greatly reduced, but still apparent if you're thinking of it.

I have catless header and first month or 2 didnt have smell issues and then i noticed it gradually getting worse. When the ac cycle mode is on the smells dont get in much if at all but it can be smelled out of car too. Just retightened the header to overpipe connection last night it was loose and i still get smell but its not as potent im thinking maybe my air filter is just soaked with fumes and hoping getting a new one will fix that othwrwise im out of ideas as to why im getting fume smells in the cabin when the air cycle mode is off

Check the sensors and the other bolts on the header, too.

I'm pretty sensitive to the exhaust smell. When I installed my OFH, I was totally catless. Loved the sound, didn't like the smell in the garage (even pulling in, not startup). I put the stock front pipe back on and now don't notice the smell at all.

At some point I'd like to try a high flow catted front pipe and see how that smells compared to stock cat and no cat.

I'm fully catless and I only notice it when I'm in the garage or stopped in traffic with windows down. I never smell it with the windows up. I had people following me say they can't smell it normal driving only WOT.

I'm going to just go the catted way then....will just wait to find a catted header for sale.
Will go catted fp/op + catted header + tune.

I would love to go catless, cause there is more gains and it's sup much cheaper...but I don't want any gas smells.
You'll smell more going to the gas station to fill up the car with gas. And the smell you get isn't a "gas" smell, it's just a slightly higher amount of NOx, and only for the first minute the car is started. After that it's like stock. You're already getting far more poison in your life from the diseasels on the road than you'll ever get from this engine.

Before the mid 2000's almost no cars came with more than 1 cat. It's ridiculous that our car comes with 2 from the factory in the first place. The one in the FP is more than adequate.

Also you can just get one of these to keep the smell out of the car (which as others have said, only happens if you roll down the windows anyways): [ame="http://www.amazon.com/CF10549-Fresh-Breeze-Cabin-Filter/dp/B002NEWUGI/ref=au_as_r?_encoding=UTF8&Make=Scion%7C91&Model=F R-S%7C21599&Year=2015%7C2015&ie=UTF8&n=15684181&s=au tomotive&vehicleId=4&vehicleType=automotive"]Amazon.com: FRAM CF10549 Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter: Automotive[/ame]

To @FRSBRZGT86FAN 's point about the loud cold starts, you can have it tuned out with OFT (and I'm sure EcuTek as well, but someone else will have to verify me on that) because the high RPM cold start is not necessary without a cat in the header. My cold starts usually hover around 1100-1200 RPM now, which is MUCH quieter than the 1800-1900 RPM cold starts.

Yup knew that, just wasn't sure this guy is going for a tune

I could very rarely get any whiff of smell with stock FP. If you want no smell, go catted. Not like you're losing much performance, especially since you're clearly not building a race car, lol
