Looks like coolant sprayed out of the overflow during motorkhana

Hi guys
2 days ago I did a casual motorkhana and later in the day noticed a smell of coolant. I never noticed the water temp gauge going any higher than normal but took it easy after that.

Today I took the airbox off and it looks like the coolant sprayed out the little hole on top of the coolant bottle. Looks like it ran along and down both fans.

I drove it home about 1 hour drive and didn't have any issues. The bottle is just below full line when engine is completely cold so I guess it didn't lose much?

My car was overfilled by a dealer when it was on their used lot. I'm almost positive they assumed it was washer fluid. I had a similar incident shortly after buying the car. I pulled it apart, cleaned it up, and changed the coolant out and keep the level down closer to the "min" line, no issues since. Car sees lots of autox/road course.

Yeah, sounds like your coolant was too full. After my car went for service mine did the same because they over filled it

Ya, if it is already at the full line then heating it up could cause it to over flow. The max min on tank is measuring overflow and should not be used to judge how much coolent is in the whole system. Many people like to keep it at max in the mistaken thought that it needs to be there to fill the system but reality is that it is there to take the excess when heat expands the coolent so if at max when cold then it is way too much when hot.

Thanks guys!
Seems odd they would put too much coolant in. I've had it since new and as far as I'm aware they haven't replaced it. Do the dealers add coolant when the car arrives or is it done at the factory?

Topping up of fluids is part of a routine service / oil change. If the tech slips and puts in too much it will exit the system as in your case
