FIX: No more slamming the trunk!

These are some pictures describing what needs to be done to allow the trunk to close more easily. The gasket is so new and plump that it negates the purpose of the stoppers. Once the gasket compresses, the stoppers may need to be re-installed!

Good call! My last vehicle had them which you can screw in or out to adjust. These ones are all or nothing. I pulled mine out and it worked like a charm.
I've already been driving at least a half dozen times with the trunk unlocked, but down, because I didn't slam it shut. The only way you can tell is the "door open" light on inside.

I believe the stoppers are to keep tension on the latch so the trunk doesn't move up and down. If you start hearing a rattle from the rear it's because the stoppers are off.

I am not getting any rattling while driving and I also tested it with enough bass from the trunk sub to rattle the garage door and it didn't make a sound.

Ummm, sure you can. But how much do you shave off? That could be a lot of back and forth. Then, if you shave too much off, what then?
Besides, I needed to find the culprit first. It's easy now to say the stoppers were in the way but there are quite a few people complaining about this on the interwebs who seem to be putting up with it.

They are probably there then to keep a certain amount of tension on the weatherstripping or puts upward tension so it pops open.

I want a DIY to make the door handles to not have the spring in there. Sometimes I have to ask a stranger in a parking lot to open my doors.
Seriously though, this just makes the trunk so that you don't have to slam it down to catch the lock. You can push it down and it catches with almost no pressure removing those things.
The slamming to shut the trunk cheapens the car to me and now it just easily locks with more a precision feeling. Try it as it takes like a minute to do and if you don't like it or see no difference, pop them back on.
This was a genius idea and one of those small thing that make a big difference if you are nitpicky when it comes to doors and trunks that have to be slammed to shut properly.

I would have to assume that there is also some adjustment available in the latch mechanism (haven't looked) to reduce shutting force.

I looked and there does not appear to be a slot in the latch under the bolts to allow for adjustment. I tried that first.
