My 2013 frs has the heated mirrors, they come on automatically when I put on the rear window defrost.

A little late to answer this but for those that might be wondering ...
I just took the mirror off the passengers side of my "bought in the United States No Options 2015 FRS" and there is no heated mirror wiring in the mirror head. I did not take the door panel off to see if it was in the door, but I am positive it is not run up to the mirror head ... i.e. certainly not an easy plug-n-play. Arvid

So no one has added heated mirrors to the base model FRS?

I put snowmobile heated grip pads on my Landcruiser mirrors, it was a pain because the mirror was glued to the frame. I think these mirrors just pop out. Just run the wire, unless it's pre wired inside the door, and tap into the defrost circuit. Works great!

I'm pretty sure the base model FR-S has heated mirrors. As stated previously, all Canadian model FR-S are confirmed to have them. The reason there is no separate switch is because the wire is relayed into the rear defroster switch. Meaning when you activated the rear defroster you've already activated your heated mirrors. Worst case scenario just pop one of your mirrors out and check for connecting pins to know for sure. If they are there then you know you've got heated mirrors. Hope this helps. |

I just bought a pair of heated ones from a forum member knowing there is a bunch of stuff missing. I know we need at least wiring from the door to the main harness. There are a bunch of unused plugs up under the dash but I haven't studied enough to confirm that part.
It's not the same circuit as the rear defroster. Wiring diagram shows a separate fused sub-circuit switched with a relay. The BCU sends the control signal for the rear defroster relay. I'm hoping it's the same case with the mirrors. It'll be a while but I'll keep you updated with progress if you're interested.

The output from the rear defroster relay is what triggers the mirror heater relay.

So I dug more into this tonight. I'm going to pick up the relay and plug it in. I think its all there but for whatever the reason, they didn't give us the relay in the US. I looked at the wiring diagrams and within the mirror housing I see 4 wires being called out. A solid pink as you can see is for the mirror heater and then on the next diagram you see there are 3 wires associated with the mirror adjusting function. ![]() ![]() ![]() That last picture is my drivers mirror which matches the diagrams by having a solid red, solid blue, white, and pink wire. Only reason it wouldn't work is if the yellow/black wire coming from the fuse after the heated mirror relay isn't part of our harness but seeing the pink wire in the mirror assembly makes me think it is. |

However I couldn't verify the red/yellow wire going from the rear window defroster relay to the empty mirror relay as there was just to much going on under there where the main bundle is for the wiring harness in the fuse box. I'll take my multimeter to pin 2 of the mirror relay and see if I get any current flowing the next time I have the defroster on. Here is my two cents thinking. I'd wager its there as I feel Toyota would probably spend there money else where since the quality control for something like this minor detail could be better spent elsewhere and was completed quicker by not having the relay there vs. ensuring a wire wasn't present. It's just really weird they would include the 7.5 amp fuse as nothing else is on that circuit. Last edited by NahumCC; 01-24-2016 at 01:30 AM. |
