Well if they deliver on their three pronged sports car approach they could still seriously undercut the Miata which starts out >$24k... without an LSD. Considering the Honda S660 is priced under $20k USD in Japan with a mid-engined turbo with full independant suspension...

Hehehe, yeah SFR slower than an MX-5, but maybe $7k cheaper when both optioned to an LSD and a solid 100+ lbs lighter...

Ah wild speculation and benchracing.

They aren't going to give you a stretched ND Miata coupe for $5k-$10k less than an actual ND Miata...

BTW I wasn't having a go at S-FR. They both look like exciting vehicles to own. It is just funny how much smaller they are getting and a class below the S-FR which is below the Miata... its just wtf... is it bicycle territory already?
Daihatsu Copen.

If they can slot one in at Corolla/Civic/Fit/Yaris pricing, you can reach a broader demographic. If they can undercut everyone in the RWD space, they'd make out like bandits here. For people who need more space or power, dealers can funnel people to the FR-S.

I think at the end of the day, it comes down to whether or not Toyota wants to bring it state-side. Hell, Toyota sold the xA side-by-side with the xB1, and Yaris for 3 years. It mostly worked because they all looked extremely different. To non-car people, that's enough to separate otherwise mechanically similar cars.
They are targeting $20k, and I'm pretty sure they have every intention of it coming to the US.

women are gonna love this little 'cute' car...I can see it selling in large cities in NA to compete with the lil' miatas, fiats, and minis. I can see people putting the headlight eyelashes already...

O'well. I got my BRZ, I'm good. lol
Well at least on paper/specs this could be close to an MR2 Spyder, but most likely better in crashes and hopefully sells better More sales=more aftermarket parts.

Looks to me like the boys at Toyota have stolen some designers from BMW / Mini and mashed the Mini front end onto a smaller FRS :/ Get those boys some more Sake, they aren't drunk enough yet. Keep tryin boys :/ Maybe if theres an S-Type (supercharged) I'll forgive em a little.

The goal of this car is to be primarily cheap and sporty. It is designed and the young first time japanese car buyer. It is the market segment the fr-s was aiming for, but after the release, their data showed that the fr-s was just way too expensive for the market. The similarly priced miata is also too expensive.

The competitor with this car is more like the honda concept the s1300. Honda came to the same conclusion as toyota, focusing on the s660 and s1300.

They will want 4 seats and a trunk, for practicality sake, so a mr setup is out of the question.

Cost will be the primary concern. I doubt it will come out with more than one powertrain and more than a couple of engines. I highly doubt any of them will have any torque to speak of, to keep costs low.

Their second priority will probably be sporty feel and look over actual track performance. I bet they will raid the parts bins for other toyota products.

more like the mini and the ft-86 concept collided, It will probably be toned down from the concept version to production and might actually look better. Lets see what they bring

Oh my god, It's Adorably mean!

I love this thing, it's like angry little bother trying to prove it's just as cool as it's older siblings

I hope it comes here, I would so buy this if I had the option.

I love fun little cars, like the S660, and ND

I really hope this and the former make it over here to the US.

I'm really digging this S-FR concept... would trade my FR-S in for one even! And if you look at the dash what do you see...oil pressure and oil temp readouts! Uses FR-S seats, shifter, and handbrake...hopefully transmission (with revised gearing of course) as well (would really want to swap the CAE Ultra shifter into it!). With a ~7k rpm redline 1.5L I4 motor... oh yes, no more troublesome FA20 boxer motors please...

Why a 2+2 though?!?! Just make it a 2 seater already! While it doesn't have the sexy looks of an FR-S that I really like, it does have an interesting look with some interesting character about it... really want it to be released and take a test drive! Sub 2200lbs, looks to have as much room for the driver as an FR-S (hopefully not too tight of a fit for the Recaro Sportster CS, everything looks to be narrower inside), and (most importantly) an I4 motor... DO WANT! It's basically what I wanted in the first place from the FR-S...will be watching the development of this car like a hawk!
