Traction control tips

So I am new to the different traction modes in the modern day cars. My 2016 BRZ has them, and I need a short user tutorial from the forum members. Any tips or ideas on how and when to use the different modes and what I will experience? Does one mode allow for more drifting while another allows for a "smoother" ride. Yes, I will read the manual and google some other sites, but I feel like we are a fraternity here, so I am throwing this out there.

Keep in mind I am (a young) 53, but I have those teenage boys who will be learning how to drive a stick with this car. Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Leaving it all on (no buttons pressed) = safest and like a normal car

VSC Sport button lets the tail slide a bit but will still save you

1 press of Trac will let tires spin a bit till a set speed then turns back on

Hold Trac button turns off all aids for the most part (use this to drift ect.)

Pedal dance turns off all aid 100% NOT FOR STREET USE!!!

If an auto it also has snow mode which starts you out in 2nd and smooth's out the shifts for more stability in ice and snow.
All setting address traction control only so there is no difference in ride.

[JS + BRZ]

Normal mode = Street
VSC Sport = Canyon
Pedal Dance = Track

Yup thats about right! I run VSC sport on 100% of the time TBH

VSC Sport button= driver who is not entirely experienced but wants to drive through a canyon road aggresively yet safely.

1 press of Trac = for all those times you "think" traction control is off yet you try to burnout anyways to impress all your immature friends.

Hold Trac button= no traction nor stability control. Use for mad drifts and all the burnouts. It will not save you. Proceed with caution.

Pedal dance turns off all aid 100% NOT FOR STREET USE!= for the track junkies that have the frs as their track car and do not plan to take it to the dealership because dealer can track when you go into this mode.

I tend to turn of traction control a lot. VSC Sport seems to interfere occasionally when I have a hard shift, or push it a bit. I do, however, use this mode in the rain when I want minimal surprises.

TC buttons only change how much computers 'let you slide' no smoothness implied, it either rights you immediately, soonish, or almost not at all.

IMO:
All on: public roads 99% of the time
'Sport': occasional street use, when scouting a new track
Off: HPDE/AutoX only
Edit: Pedal Dance, going to try it out for the first time in two weeks...

I drive in Sport nearly exclusively when it's dry out. It'll let you get a little bit of rotation before it kicks in, and I appreciate that.

That traction control makes an ugly sound....tried all versions today except for pedal dance.....put 52 miles on my car and let my 15 year old drive it....he actually did well with the clutch. I love this car. Getting windows tinted and paint protected on Tuesday.

yeah, it's using the ABS to stop wheelspin rather than limiting power. it sounds pretty terrible.

you can't even chirp gears in vsc sport without the traction control kicking in. even with he one press traction off, traction control kicks in a lot when you're driving spiritedly. I used to drive a very tail happy mustang gt stick for quite a few years so I'm comfortable with the kind of driving that you do with tc held off. (though in rain I won't even mess with vsc sport, give me all the traction you can - hydro planing is just about the least fun thing that you can encounter)

wtf?

honestly, I drive with this thing in vsc sport everywhere, hold trac for 5 sec in canyon, and pedal dance at race track. But this tracking when you do pedal dance is something i haven't read anywhere yet.

Is that something like if you take it in with a blown motor and the thing was in diagnostic mode RECENTLY they'll use it as leverage; or is it a once used and eff you?

Back on track, I find the intrusive nannies to be quite relevant on the regular street and recommend keeping in normal mode for the avg driver... if there is such a thing these days
