Sounds like the 86 has the new Corvette beat.

Companies in the Ferrari and Lamborghini category usually don't allow their cars to be tested in these kind of tests due to fear of losing which would cause their brand image to drop. That's how I have seen it explained in one of these tests before when it was brought up in the article.

Final video posted. I won't spoil it, but a bit surprising.

Watched the video and I get it, ask anybody around here and it would have been a toss up between the Miata and the GT4, but when you layout the critical weakness in each car, realize that the AMG ties it all together for the person who drives it off the showroom floor it's hard to argue.

I'll probably never drive one, all benchracing but, hard to imagine it carries it's weight that well, but it's totally understandable that it can, I've been in a Boss 302 and '14 Camaro SS of similar weight and while it's no ballet dancer there is a gratification in feeling the beast follow your lead.

Sounds like if you gave the Miata some stiffer coilovers and the GT4 a final drive swap it'd be a three way tie at least.

Porsche's decision to give the GT4 such a long final drive ratio is interesting. A company with that much racing pedigree and experience not realizing it would hurt acceleration and enjoyment? Hmm... the conspiracy theory almost writes itself. Pobst's comments about understeer are also a bit disappointing, but seems like most Porsches short of the GT3 badge have some understeer built in.

BTW I have no qualms with the AMG winning the competition, but who'd have guessed it haha. Seems like AMG have become deadly serious about handling and driving dynamics starting with the last-gen C63.

@DarkSunrise after owning this car and realizing how camber can totally gimp Macpherson struts, I wouldn't be surprised if the understeer in the GT4 is easy to correct.

Wouldn't be surprised. I know the sway bars are adjustable on the GT4, so I'm sure between that, tire pressure changes, and alignment changes in the front end could easily eliminate that characteristic.

Was hoping that the gt4 would be amazing.
The underster issue was not able to be fixed by Porsche when MT did the review on the gt4.

Oddly here is what Porsche says about the gearing. At 9:00. Gt chief pruninger.
Puzzling why they went with tall gears.
