Just because you add power doesn't mean it'll only be good for straightline drag racing. If that was the case then the lotus exige wouldn't have been made. The elise would have been just fine.

A supercharger on the FRS/BRZ would turn this from sporty to sports car.
So what makes it not a sports car and what cars do you feel are?

You initially pulled away from the 350Z, and then at 15 seconds he shot forward. Did he downshift, or was he not even trying until that point? Also, when did you upshift to 3rd? (going by sound, it seems it was at either 18 or 21 seconds)

He was on third to start the race while I was in second he may have shifted into fourth at the end but I am not sure and I up shifted at 18 seconds into third

Sounded to me like he downshifted into 2nd then upshifted back into 3rd. Which would definitely put the z at a great torque range to take the FR-S. If he stayed in 3rd he wouldn't have pulled so hard nor shifted so shortly afterward.

EDIT: Just read how he said he was in second, I'd like to know how many RPM's you were pulling at the start of the race too.

The frs was in second at 40 I'm not sure what Ron range that puts me in. I wasn't paying attention to what rpm I was at in the start just when to shift and the z never down shifted

1st car to rev at me at a stoplight was a mustang GT. (he was extra mad), I got paper tags and it's not even broken in yet, as if I'd give you the time of day in a lame drag-race anyways...)

Winning a drag race in an FR-S is the equivalent of coming first place in a three-legged sack race.

(was gonna say "Special Olympics" but that would be rude and insensitive)
