Simple logic (and I do emphasize the word, "simple", here) dictates that only the fastest vehicle is a sports car. They're like Highlander that way (the immortals, not the SUV. Which I guess is a sports car on really bad dirt roads?)

Seriously, some days, I can only imagine how many MX-5 owners are lurking our forum and laughing their asses off.
That could be true, and it's OK if it is. Everyone has to start somewhere, and all of us start off not knowing jack. The more you learn, the more you find out you don't know. Sometimes it just helps to keep your mouth shut.

OP loved the video!

Its funny how quick this thread became a shitstorm.

FT86club members, be careful about becoming an elitist! I know this car was factory designed for real drivers, and not purposely built to be competitive against other vehicles.

But that doesn't mean every Zx6 owner should abide by the same wants and needs as the next owner because of its factory nature. OP wants to be competitive with this car, lets help him be competitive with his car.

Yes it will fall short of performance in similar price brackets, but to get the level of feeling the Zx6 offers your looking at 50k price tags. Which many 30-40k performance vehicle do not offer.

Emotion>Performance = BRZ/FRS, Elise, Evora, s2000, Cayman S, Miata, rx7, rx8.
Performance>Emotion = 350z, 370z, Mustang, Genesis coupe,

Theres no right way to tune this car, and we are going to have a diverse car culture here. From Performance guys, to Driven Only guys.

Many of us here are coming from 350-500whp cars, and are excited to come down to a 150-170whp small sporty car. Does this blow your mind?

If you can't take this car into a corner with a full 200hp running then don't pretend like you're too good for the car. Pick your battle that's all if saying, racing red lights is for gtr.

This is certainly true, and my initial reaction to this video was that it shouldn't have been posted on this site at all since even the vs forum states NO STREET RACING. However, I watched it again and the conditions were:
  • divided highway with two lanes plus breakdown lane
  • smooth pavement and dry surface
  • good visibility
  • no traffic
  • straight-away
  • mid-speed rolling start (he said he was in 2nd)
  • reasonable top-speed
So I don't have a problem with what they did, and I'm not sure I'd even consider this street racing so much as just a brief mid-speed acceleration comparison

Having written that, it belongs in the vs forum (duh... this thread even has vs. in the title). But if the mods don't have a problem with it here, then neither do I.

Yep,you still don't get it. Torque is what gets you off the line not horsepower, or pulling as you call it. The Z has almost double the RX-8 hence why it pulls so much harder. Gearhead 101

I agree he would have been better off going from a dig.....2nd will put you in that midrange grey area in a FRS/BRZ...and if it was a 1st gen Z it could have been close if he lauched it right...from a roll you have no chance they make their peak torqur right there....thats why he swalloed him so bad...

What's even more silly is the fact that an RX8 isn't a quick car anyway...beating one shouldn't be anything to boast about.

I'm not a "horsepower is all that matters" kind of guy but I don't get why everyone thinks more power is going to be "using the car wrong." I think it's a neat car right now, has good handling characteristics but with more meat on the tires, more power it could become a real performance machine. Just because you add power doesn't mean it'll only be good for straightline drag racing. If that was the case then the lotus exige wouldn't have been made. The elise would have been just fine.

A supercharger on the FRS/BRZ would turn this from sporty to sports car.

you see this in low powered car forums across the board. if you go to miata.net you will see a host of people telling you how the miata is better than a 911. doesnt make sense but sometimes we get tired of telling people how a car that is down hundreds of hp can be just as cool so we get defensive
