I'm loving that we have 3 active members from Columbus already! I got mine from Germain Toyota near Reynoldsburg and Whitehall.

The HID retrofit sounds like a great idea. It's the only feature I'm really missing from the BRZ/ GT86 (though red stitching on handbrake would have been nice)

What car is the donor model for your projectors? I'd like to do the full swap, but frankly if the cost is too high I'll either stick with halogen or just rock the crappy stock projectors with HID bulbs.

I got mine at Tansky Scion, Sawmill Rd, just South of 270 (North end). As of Friday, there was a Silver FR-S there that the owner still needed to pick-up.

I'd like to get projectors from the S2000. But I might just settle for TSX ones. Since the FR-S already has separate high beams, I only need a low beam projector. The other option would be to use FX-R projectors, but then I'd have 2 sets of high beams. The projectors will run around $200, plus the bulbs and ballasts, and whatever supplies (paint, sealant, wiring, etc). I'm guessing around $350 for everything.

I'm waiting to see what comes of the stock projectors with drop-in HID bulbs (after bending the squirrel finders down). I doubt they'll be able to compare to a retrofit.

Your probably right, but $350 is quite the price tag. For now I'll probably wait and see. I've always preferred performance over cosmetics, so I'd rather save the 350 for an intake, exhaust or sway bar. Hopefully Scion adds in a HID option in the future or someone comes up with a good cheaper kit.

unlikely I know, but I can always dream rofl

Do you mind if I join your retrofit project?? or help me source out the parts and teach me how to do it?

I'm not so bad with mechanical stuff, but when it comes to electronic, I'm dumb...

so far active 3 fr-s and two brzs in town that I'm aware of

we should make central ohio thread and do a meet some time

I'm going to blackout my emblems this week to see if I like it or not, if not I will remove them

I agree on both counts!

Just made an order for an FR-S...does that count?

I'm a half hour outside of Cleveland, east side.

Yeah, I can let you know once I start ordering stuff. I need to try and guess what size/shape the OEM projector is to make it easier to swap projectors.

One of the guys in my group at work ordered his BRZ months ago, but he doesn't know when it will be in.

And yeah, a meet is always good.

Hey all! just wanted to let everyone know I created a group Ohio FT-86 owners, it should be a bit easier to add photos and arrange any meets or events through a social group as opposed to giant threads in the Great Lakes region!

Group is at:

I plan on driving it up to Mid-Ohio next saturday to watch the Rolex sports car race and then the weekend after there is a Buckeye Miata Club autocross on campus.

It's got about 130 miles on it now, so I guess I have about two weeks to put 1,000 miles on her lol. Though to be honest I'm not all that concerned about it. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't gone past 4,000 RPM's on more than a few occasions already and one of the salesmen at the dealership told me he was doing 100 MPH on the freeway in 3rd gear before I bought it.

The dealership said there was no break in period because it's a Scion but the owners manual says different...
I will be at Mid-Ohio with my 2ZZ MR2 Spyder Hardtop. Just going Saturday with my son for Rolex and Continental races. I will keep a look out for you and say "Hi" if I see you. I normally park in the infield.

Funny you say that. One of the guys at work told me about that meet yesterday.
