Why as a society....

do we keep it so damn cold in buildings during the summer and so damn hot during the winter?

I am a grown man in above average shape and im wearing a sweatshirt in my office in Houston. People have North face parkas on.

I have no idea.. My co worker likes to bring the AC down to 67 DEGREES!!! I hate having to come to work and put a jacket on just so I don't shiver in my office all day.

I have found, through actual study, (I do work) that the temperatures are usually within a couple of degrees of each other during both seasons. It is more of matter of acclimatization to the actual weather conditions that creates a false perception that is cold in the summer and hot in the winter.

TLDR - Your brain is messin' with ya dude.

I am from the northeast and I noticed it is really bad down in the South and I dont think its an acclimatization thing. I think that ones its starts to cool off they are slow to ratchet down the AC.

In the South the AC is INTENSE and it needs to be but they need to taper better. But I will start keeping track of it and see what my research shows.

Tcoat.. I wish this was true. But it's a significant drop due to my co worker cranking down the AC because she "doesn't want to take off her cute sweater."

I'm also in Houston. My family is originally from Puerto Rico, but spent time in New Jersey. I used to live in Oklahoma. But, out of all the places I've been, Houston has been the worst place in terms of over-using the A/C. Every where I go, it feels like they are trying to turn the building into a refrigerator. I normally never use the A/C while driving, just to warm up afterwards.

When almost everyone in the office building has to wear jackets in the summer... you would think someone would get the Real Estate guys to adjust the thermostat.

There are exceptions. When surveying people though they were frequently 15 or more degrees off on their guesses as to what the actual temperatures were.

My personal theory is that businesses keep it cold to promote work and efficiency. With warmth you tend to slow down and more prone to be lazy and fuck off its a scientific fact
