I was first bummed that it would not have a sunroof, coming from a 1st-gen tC. But two seconds later I thought about it again and how many problems it had and am now glad it doesn't. Like noted above it will be much more stable and solid without one, not to mention the added weight of a sunroof.

Being very careful (would love to see the car's torsion chart on hard turns) you could probably find aftermarket shops that could do it, I have a friend who did it on an XB (a few people carve up XBs for SRs) and it turned out decent.

+ trunk over hatch should be a design improvement as well.

I've never really used the sunroof on any of my cars. I still don't even though I don't have A/C. It actually makes me hotter with the sun beating down on me. lol.

I'm glad the FR-S doesn't have one, though I wouldn't be against people who'd want the option.

There is a sunroof option, not sure if its been mentioned. You will need to order the MIATA trim level to get it.

When ever possible I have always opted for a sun roof and also leather. As other said, not having either wouldn't be a deal breaker.

Although I know I will get crucified because I can't find the link now, I know I read an interview with one of the designers or engineerss where they basically said there would be a convertible without actually saying the words. my money says they do it audi tt style....2+ 2 couple and 2 seater roadster

Might have been the same article where they said the chasis was designed to accept significantly more than the 200hp it wil have at launch and then just smiled when asked if the brz will get a turbo version.

The wife has always been a "have to have sunroof" buyer. That's what steered us away from the Fit last time we were shopping for a commuter appliance. We'll have to see if she can give up this feature when it's time for the new car.

One of those weird things I guess...
I'm one of those folks... even went so far as to putting an aftermarket one in my mustang...

no chance i'll be able to do that on an BRZ if I get one though with the contour of the roof....

Not in my case. Every car I've owned in the last 24 years has had a sunroof or a targa top. Well, except for the Miata.

Despite being well-accustomed to such "luxuries", I'm delighted that the FR-S does not have a sunroof. Personally I won't miss it a bit.

Here's a close-up of the roof.

It is one continous curve, front to back and has the three part aero-flow groves in it. The curve and the detail just wouldn't be practical for a sunroof in my opinion. You may be able to do a targa, but even that would be semi-impractical without a roof redesign since the roof pieces would have least have to me curved and shaped to match the existing roof line.
