How did "da dip" take such a stronghold on DIY car modifications?

I previously used some of that stuff on interior dash - while it made everything black, every dust particle would stick to it, it felt sticky to the touch, and couldn't be wiped off.

It was damn easy to remove though.

Bolded part is your subconscious telling you no....

My thought is it doesn't look better than stock.

Imagine the memories that people have of times in the 90s when they riced out their own piece-of-junk with fake hood scoops, large ass wings, neon light kits, horrid paint jobs, and a number of other stupid things to top it all off. Now I'm sure they regret some of what they did, but it was still, probably, just about the best memory they hold today.

And if you decide you don't like this approach, you can always buy and install a new side-emblem from Ft-86 Speedfactory for $35, no biggie.
Underglow is next on my mod list. My car is more ricey than a Chinese factory farm and I'm damn proud of it.

Could look cool if you make other things have a red accent. Like the Harrop 86

Whels, mirrors, emblems. If Porsche can make it look good, then you probably can.

Because it is easy on easy off. So much better than real paint or powdercoating.

I did that to the BRZ dash trim so I wouldn't have to look at that expanse if ugly silver plastic (that gets quite irritating in the sunlight)

Sorry, not feeling it. Makes the car look like a toy. If you rally want to customize it how about:

EASY: painting the black lines red so it looks JDM
or
LITTLE MORE EFFORT: painting the pistons/rods/86 gun metal while painting the voids in the 86 and around the piston rods with (gloss/flat?) black. Should make it stand out. If I can find a badge or two I may try it myself for laughs.

Do what you want to make it yours or different, but yeah, you would need more red trim or other pieces to tie it together. Maybe red aero, spoiler, window spoiler? I don't know. Ya need a plan, then do it! Or not...

I'm going to buck the trend. I think the reason it seems questionable is because it's too lonely. Feels like you're just getting started.

If there were other accents in the same shade it would be part of a bold theme.
