"i broke in my frs about a week ago and decided to race my friends 350z with just an intake. well i was a little upset that i lost, then i found out he was in 3rd while i was in 2nd and decided its time to boost it or sell it."
Not sure what you expected with that 1st comment, OP. It does seem to indicate that your missing the concept behind the 86. The machine is designed to excel on a road course, where skill is more important than horsepower. I've seen it hundreds of times on track. The guy in the high HP car blasts past a NA Miata on a long straight, only to have to offer a point by when the superior driver in the car costing 1/15th as much cash is back on his ass in two turns. It just never gets old. Nothing wrong with high HP cars if you want to foot the bill, but the 86 is not the correct tool for drag racing. Decades ago, I was in love with my S30 series 280Zs. I test drove a 370Z recently. It was quick, but heavy and numb feeling. Those cars initially had heat issues on track, going into limp mode. It boils down to choosing the right tool for the job, at a price your willing to pay.

I think it was your comment about selling the car.. It came across, to me at least, like you were disappointed and expected the race to be close. Bottomline, this car was not designed for straight line acceleration, and there are very few RWD sports coupes that it could beat in a drag race. But yeah, if you were just having fun and joking around with the comments, next time I recommend adding a smiley face or something so people don't take you literally when you say you might need to sell the car because it can't hang with a 350Z.

+1. The required driving skills to hold a steering wheel straight and mash the gas petal is utterly mind blowing.

For the price of a Cayman S you could probably get an FR-S and a Mustang Boss.. Best of both worlds.

I believe someone on this forum has a quote in their signature that states, "More power makes you faster on the straights, less weight makes you faster everywhere." I think that is a very important lesson for people to learn. |

If you look up a few reviews and comparison videos even with experienced drivers you'll see the 1/4m times vary alot, by several seconds. Even the 0-60 times vary by a second. So, drag racing isn't as straight forward as you'd think.
Still, thinking you can beat a 350z in a straight line is just overly optimistic. |

Nothing wrong with drag racing a faster car then you, but please don't street race. Keep it on the track for everyone's safety, including yours
