I wasn't trying to start a storm here, just wanted to clarify. And I won't be protesting anyone for some measly styrofoam that probably weighs less than a pound anyway!

Officially Styrofoam needs to stay.

With that written, most people understand the difference between something that makes a difference and other things that don't.

However Rules are Rules, you can protest it if you want.

But arent the foam pieces designed to be removed, thus forming a tray for the tools and such?? I run without them, as I am using them as intended, IMO...

Never imagined a protest could be filed for something like that....guess its time to check every clip on my fender liners then, too then!!

People seem to think that car illegal = DSQ. The protest committee can decide that a car is illegal, and then choose ANY punishment they want - including NO punishment.

They can also decide that your protest is so unsporting that YOU are the one who gets punished. Think before you throw paper.

Clips are gone on mine. I have not had the foam holders in and don't plan to... I hope no one would actually protest that.

If you win... They absolutely would.

Damn, we can take that stuff out? I usually leave the foam in and remove the tire/tools. I probably should swap my nameless oil leak delete plate back to the stock leaking one. That would be the only protestable item on the car.

Not sure who "they" is, but I doubt it. I've done well at some big events the past few years, and no one even cares to look back there nor do I or anyone else I've seen look back there on anyone else's car (except to see their fancy reservoir shocks). Someone mentioned before, I doubt someone protests and if they would, what penalty would they be looking to get for that car/driver? I guess this conversation will have everyone looking in trunks now...

What protest have you witnessed on something similar that was won and penalty associated with it? Floormats?

The only ones I've seen successful for a DSQ were wastegate related in STU and 140tw R1R, both of which were obvious and affected performance. I'm sure there are more than I've witnessed, but we'd usually hear about them over beers that night. Unless someone brings a 370Z to run in CS, I don't see any scenario where I'd protest someone. I'll just be there to drive, have some beers, and cheer on the FRS/BRZ contingent.

When I'm fighting for midpack at Nats, the last thing on my mind is going to be "oh man, I was only 4 seconds off that guy's pace, let me protest the lack of secured foam in his rear."

I'll just leave this here.

Next week Grassroots Motorsports will be joining 1200+ of our best friends in Lincoln, Nebraska, for the SCCA Tire Rack Solo Nationals. On Monday, September 7, we’re again hosting Tacos and Talent with our friends from BFGoodrich and the Lincoln Area. Come for dinner, stay for the entertainment.

Plus we have two cars entered. Art director J.G. Pasterjak will campaign our Formula 500 in F Modified, while Editorial Director David S. Wallens and multi-time Solo champ Andy Hollis will run a new ND-chassis Mazda MX-5 in C Street? Don’t worry, folks, it’s just for exhibition as we know that the car isn’t yet classed.

See you in Lincoln.

Haven't had my styrofoam in for any events this year, haven't been protested. Basically the only thing in the trunk is the side carpets. Hell, Mark Stevens' car even had those removed and no one protested me when I won in that car.

And yeah, I'd bet a case of good beer that the protest committee would tell you to pound salt if you threw paper at someone for something like that. Hopefully at least, because mine will be out for nats hahaha.

Don't tell them, I was hoping to being involved in a pointless protest.

Apparently one year some guy protested all of the Neons at a Pro for not having the spare tire cover in (that was held on via a plastic wingnut), and I think all those cars did get bounced, but this guy was forever known as the douche nozzle who protested a spare tire cover. Do you really want to be this guy? I want someone to be this guy more than I want to go buy new clips to hold some foam in place that will break after another 2-3 events (again).

If the above is true, that's pretty cool. Maybe Hollis running an ND will take some of the protest spotlight off my missing foam.
