Hi! Another mechanical engineer checking in. I'd just like to add my own views on this which tend to mirror those of the other engineers in this thread.

1. Stock crank pulley is a harmonic damper, this is a fact.
2. The stock crank pulley costs the OEMs more to manufacture than a simple lathed aluminum piece
3. If an OEM sees a way to save a fraction of a cent, they do it.
4. No, lightweight pulleys do not "FREE power"

Is a lightweight crank pulley going to liquify bearings and make an engine useless? Probably not. Do they look nice? Sure! Does it make the engine spin up faster (in an unloaded state)? Yes! The change is small but measurable. Would I ever install one? Fuck no.

The part of this whole thing I never understood was this: why risk any issues for what amounts to very minimal enhancement?

My experiences with an NST pulley. I had the crank pulley on my Yaris. Noticed slightly quicker free revs, but nothing different under load. Don't recall feeling any differences in power (and I have a very sensitive butt dyno ) or seeing any mpg changes. I got it for cheap, so I figured why not.

Would I get it for my FR-S, most likely not, even if it was the same price I got the Yaris one for.

add another +1 to that! The stock damper is there for a reason. remove that and you start running a higher risk for failure. Would it fail on a n/a barely modded car? most likely not but facts are facts..you're removing the dampening capabilities and IF you have enough transfer back to the rotating assembly...kiss it goodbye.

all for the cool look and 'feel' that 'something' is happening? We agree with Steve and Decay107. pass on that. Save your money for a safer way to improve efficiency
