Maybe I missed it, but did you escalate to SOA? If you did not you need to go that route before getting a lawyer. Once you get a lawyer involved most dealerships and SOA will stop working with you direct and will use their lawyers.

Don't know exactly what they would accept as 'adequate' at this point. Many people service their own fluids in their cars as it is generally not a difficult operation, especially with the oil filter right there in the engine bay making access to it less of a bitch than usual. But after they wouldn't agree to complete the repairs 100% under the factory warranty I threw up my and contacted my attorney immediately providing him with every bit of information that I had. It isn't even the money that pisses me off, its the principal that they would not make every effort possible to make sure I was satisfied with their service, thus Subaru has lost a customer.

On top of their poor service with the engine, my drivers side seal was curled up from opening and closing the door with the frame-less windows always rolling up and down causing lots of wind noise and in the event of rain it would slightly leak water, I had brought it to their attention and they had told me they would take care of the issue under warranty. When I was informed that my car was ready a month after leaving it with them to get the engine replaced they said they couldn't recreate the issue and thus didn't take action. So I had a conversation with their service manager and showed him what had been previously been acknowledged he begrudgingly agreed to order the part and repair it under warranty.

If they want to get their lawyers involved in a municipal court case over $2500ish let them. And yes, I had escalated to SoA and they pretty much gave me you're SOL.

IKR

Or how about this...

Trade shitty BRZ Subie warranty service for pretty good FR-S Toyota warranty service. Saves tens of thousands on his $2500 beef.

Or

keep that fine humble-brag action coming on the C7.

Dat Vette is just too much feelsman.jpg.

How is this Magnuson Moss? Changing your own oil is expressly permitted in the warranty agreement.

Figured if I am getting out of the BRZ I might as well give it a go at owning a car with a little more go juice.

No, I don't.

And I guess I don't really have any particular motivation that caused me to join the forum and post this, just felt like it?

Any denial of warranty coverage for oil changes must be demonstrably the fault of the owner. OP described a warranty denial. This is exactly Magnuson Moss.

So OP, sounds like you enjoyed the car just fine it was SOA who soured the experience, if you had a replacement motor under the warranty they claimed to provide you would it be fair to say you'd still be enjoying the car?

You are correct, most warranty denials go straight to Magnusson Moss regardless of what the owner has done, dealership is basically accusing him of negligence, doing an oil change improperly or at the incorrect service intervals or whatever.

OP, I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Nothing wrong with this being a first post. If the engine fails during normal use AND warranty coverage is denied then I think he's doing everyone a service by making this known.

Stories like this are unfortunate, and does little to make me confident of Subaru powertrains. A performance engine in a Honda sports car failing like this would be unheard of.

To be honest I probably would. The factory warranty was close to giving out on me, and the truth of the matter is, I kept trying to envision what I wanted out of my BRZ. And in the end of it I think what I really wanted the end result of my BRZ to be was a C7.

I didn't mind the nice where it really counts and cheap where it doesn't approach, it kept money in my pocket at purchase. Power isn't a huge factor in this but come on who doesn't want 400-500 horses? The back seats have gotten no use as seats outside of jokes with friends because all of them are 6'1+ so it isn't even close to feasible for us to jam into my car when we can all hop into one of their crew cab trucks. In the end I would've ended up sinking money into a car that I loved, maybe because it was the first sports car I bought, maybe because it really is just that good for the price, but I would've most likely been chasing something that is on the market and at this point in my life readily available for my purchase.

Still, no resolution was ever reported in either of those instances linked - which is a bit unusual.

That, and Honda doesn't make sportscars anymore. Comments like this are always a little ridiculous anyway. Nobody posts that their engine is still running fine, right? We only hear about the failures, which is why things like that tend to get overblown.

Speaking of overblown, how's that IMS bearing doing, Wolfpack?
