"Eigh-ty-six" (but perhaps not in Britain??)

Added: It's not "eight-six" because the number refers to the dimensions of the bore and stroke of the boxer engine (86 X 86 mm). Also, Jeremy Clarkson called it a "gee-Tee-eigh-ty six" on Top Gear. While he may have many other failings, I think that we can take it from the donkey's mouth in this case.

Dunno, I was half kidding. But I was also under the impression that the Japanese call it "eight six"?
Correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't know, but that is a really interesting question! I am fairly certain that, in the Japanese language, the word "eight-six" doesn't appear, even for the number 86. Perhaps the most literal translation of the Japanese way of saying that number is very close to "eight-six"? I wonder if any forum member could clear up this burning question?

In German, one would say "sechs und achtzig" which translates to "six and eighty". However, since my original Haiku reference was to Brits, then I believe that I am safe using "eighty-six".

That's a lot more than 17 syllables. Epic Haiku fail.

Well, FINE!!! I take back my Haiku, even though it clearly states: "86 for Brits". So if you get down to it, how the Japanese say it is irrelevant. Brits also have a perverse delight in mispronouncing any foreign word.

Still, the "Snow falls on cedars" reference was pretty good, eh? Nice sort of Japanese print image?
