Having driven M cars in the past (Z3, Z4, 3 series), I know that BMW will do a stellar job with the 2 series.

My girlfriend has a 228i Msport (MT) and its a fast, well sorted, quality car. That being said, I don't find it as fun to drive as the FR-S. The seating position is a bit high, the steering feel needs work (blame electric steering) and the entire ethos is somewhat removed from the GoKart style experience I prefer.

That being said, its a fast capable car even without treatment from the M engineers. It will be a treat no doubt and a proper 'm3' throwback.

It won't be a throw back. EPS and a turbo engine ruin the driving experience, compared to the BMWs that made the brand great.

I was very very interested in the M2 after owning my 135i and missing out on the 1M boat, but for the price and the amount I rake in each year its not justifiable. Plus I really like owning a convertible that weighs under 3000lbs.
