2016 BMW M2
2 Attachment(s)
So I've recently decided last week at the pub, it was pretty much me and someone else. I took the plunge yesterday and put down a deposit on a 2016 M2.
Cons: -Appears a bit porky at ~3400-3500lbs -Will lose down-to-earth status(always thought >30k on a car isn't sensible) -GT350 and Hellcat will easily tack and jibe past the BMW -Can not wear Old Navy clothes anymore(sorry Julia Louis-Dreyfus) -Exclusivity uncertain(2017+ production is cloudy) -Would prefer 8000+ rpm limit -No CF roof Pros: -use of forced induction likely will appease many environmentalists -arriving in a BMW gives a better 'business' appearance vs. FT-1, GT350, Hellcat, etc.) -short-term exclusivity (only ~100 for Cdn market in 2016) -looks great but probably not a heat score |
I like it, and I really wanted to like it but... I feel like it's just too much like a M235i at first glance.
Makes it hard to justify the price difference; though I'm sure the driving experience itself is great, as M cars usually are. |
Did they release pricing on the m2 already?
|
Please just do call it your "Bimmer"!
|
It costs too much money for what you get. Compared to the equivalent M3?

No. I do recall the 1M was 47K when it came out. It was approximately 10K more than the 135i. Just off the top of my head, the 235i starts at 43K so I'm guessing 55K. Quote:
I can't compare the M3 with M2 as one is a sedan and the other a coupe. It is irrelevant for most Americans but here in Canada, the 235i starts at 45K so a mere 2k difference, helps a lot. On the topic of exchange rate, I might be wrong but European Delivery for US customers is extremely lop-sided compared to Cdn customers with the strong USD. |

I've read the steering rack feel on the M3/M4 is a major disappointment. Can anyone chime in? The rack is a major component for me when deciding on a vehicle but at my age now, I can live with a 'bad' one. As long as the steering column doesn't impale through my orbital I'm happy! |

I owned a E90 M3 and while that steering rack wasn't the best either but it is MILES better than the F80 one. I would say the EPS in FRS is much better than the new bimmers. |
I'm a little confused. Why would you put a down payment on a car you have no details on. What if the price turned out to be to high or you decide you don't like the looks??
|
It will be the best BMW money can buy. But even so I think it should either be cheaper or it should have more CF and S55 engine for the price they are asking.
|
Huge hit. Love it. Can't wait to drive one.

In the grand scheme of things, the car will definetly be pretty damn good and I highly doubt you'll be disappointed or regretting your decision to pick one up. BMW takes pride in their M-line. |

You sound like a bankruptcy councilor! A good record I have with vehicles I've owned in my lifetime, is that they have all had good resale value. I think it is a bit greedy to assume the M2 will have as good a resale as the 1M but I will venture to say it will be better than the M3/M4. I've noticed with the exception of tipping, it is cheaper to dine out most of the time unless you buy cheap meats and sale items at the supermarket. It is strange, the vibe of what appears to be single people grocery shopping. It has changed in the last 10-15 years on that front and imo, it doesn't sometimes look good. I live in a posh neighborhood where the local pub serves drinks for $3.25. That little bit helps as well. |
