Drive: Boerne / Enchanted Rock / Boerne Date: 22 AUG Start Time: 0900 // Arrival time: 0830-0900 Meet: Jiffy Lube Parking Lot 1345 S Main St Boerne, TX 78006 Ending: 1300ish (Jiffy Lube Parking Lot) Additional: BBQ SATX 86 Owners Club @ 1500 (Original post below in quotes with facebook link). ![]() Original Post Below: Would anyone be interested in doing a drive through Fredericksburg this weekend? I picked up one of those maps at that Bent Rim Grill (thanks Tim) and figured why not ask to see if anyone wants to do one of the drives they have listed. It's a loop starting at Boerne, through Fredericksburg, by Enchanted Rock, back through Fredericksburg, then back to Boerne. I'm going to aim to do it this weekend. It is 140 miles and I figured I would stop in Fredericksburg on the way back (second pass through) and eat some food prior to heading back into San Antonio. My only hope is I find someone to be a TC... else I will be doing a lot of memorizing road names (which is how I navigate). I will NOT get you lost though I can guarantee that. If I take a wrong turn I either turn around or keep going for a few blocks until I find a decent road and drive that. Ugh, side tracking... I apologize that it is only a week away, but yeah, most people tend to be able to confirm a few days - week out most of the time (at least from what I've come to notice from the people I'm around). Side track: GPS is a nice thing and all when you're aiming to for a set destination. I tend to memorize road names and take off in whatever direction I need to go when it comes to anything but work... Anyways, let me know if anyone would be interested in doing it. Edit: Added time; added meeting location; added 'title'; added Extreme86s post about SATX 86 Owners Club BBQ. Edit 2: Added picture of map Edit 3: Changed time for the drive to 0900 Edit 4: Added video containing a section of the drive to allow people to see the conditions of the roads. Sounds like fun! Unfortunately, I have morning plans already.
On Sat. Aug. 22nd, there's also gonna be a BBQ bash for local SATX 86 Owners Club members at Scorpion Auto Designs in Converse, TX at 3PM. Pot Luck style. Bring your favorite foods and beverages. Bring your clean 86 for some photo ops! Missed this last year so going for sure this year. Check out the SATX 86 Owners Club event post on FB: https://www.facebook.com/events/592860544150769/

weederr33, if we start it around 0800 it's safe to assume we could probably finish up by 1300. It's 140 miles from Boerne, which puts us just under four hours for the most part. That is me adding some time to stop and eat some food and what not.
Extreme86, will see. If I show up don't expect food. I can stop by to say 'hi' and stuff. I don't cook though ): |

mx5_2nr, not to worry. I will be doing a lot of drives and if people want to go I can make a post every time I'm about a do one with details.
Weederr33, I apologize if this seems long I just suck at making maps... it's noted below that I made one and it broke on me ):but this how the route would look with regards to street names. The way it'll work for this one is the drive will start taking off on FM1376, turn onto the 290/87, right onto Cherry Mountain Loop, right onto Gypsum Mine Rd, left to Keese Rd, right to Welgehausen Rd, left to N Milam St, left onto 16, *stop in Fredericksburg for some grub*, continue on the 16 to Old Kerr Hwy (take a left), then left to Center Point Rd, Center Point Rd turns into Hasenwinkel Rd, left onto Cypress Creek Rd, stay right onto Broadway, left onto the 27, right onto Pankratz Rd, left to Mill Dam Rd, left to Skylind Dr, left to Holiday Rd, left to Below Rd, left to Big Joshua Creek Rd, right to 289, end in Boerne... HOWEVER I RUN INTO AN ISSUE WITH THIS MAP AND THE END Important to Note: DIRT TIME FOLLOWS (I lead into caution with this one due to possible weather situation) Instead of going onto Big Joshua Creek Rd stay left to Possum Creek Rd, turns into Jamison Rd, left to Upper Cibolo Creek Rd, right Interstate 10 Frontage Rd and end... My way is weird and I wonder if one could pull it off, but I understand that people and their cars and dirt can lead to bad things q: so... for lack of a map those are the direction... and now I look to see if one can make a map somehow... and I just made one and it broke on me ): but .... blah... |

That's fine. I will still show up and see if anyone wants to do it. I'll be aiming to get there prior to 0800. I'll sit in the parking lot and wait for people to show up if not then no big deal. I'll see if I can get a buddy of mine in an SI to show up for it, but eh... things happen. Next time, weederr33, next time... I'm always game for a drive on the weekend.

All right, so the way it'll work is start time will be 0900. If I accommodate to myself it'd be something like 0600... and I've come to find out no one likes waking up for some reason maybe I'm just old now but none of the young people I know like waking up early. Fun fact: I'm a morning person because I dislike dealing with people on the road. If people want to do that drive and head into the pot luck that can be arranged better(ish) that way. Should give us enough time to leave Boerne and arrive in Converse around 1400/1500.
When it comes to the drive, since I have not done the route before, I will probably take a bit easy. I will have my detector up, but that only works so much. If no one shows up I will be taking the dirt road route and enjoying some action prior to my first change of fluids on the 5th of September. Fun fact: I'll hit around 4,700 miles with only a month 1/2 of ownership. Of course the route alter would be depending upon the weather and the drivers, if people show up. If dirt roads make people iffy about something then I'm fine with avoiding it and I don't want anyone to break their comfort zone. |

If only I didn't have to make copious amounts of potato salad for the bbq I'd totally be up for this! I've driven some of the roads up to Fredericksburg and they are a blast. Next time for sure Z!

weederr33, mx5_2nr, Extreme86, MobiousStrip,
The next time I'm doing one will be in October. I'm taking my massive road trip on 7SEP and won't return here until 25SEP. Leaving here to head to Big Bend on the 7th. 8th I'm stopping at Carlsbad Caverns / Guadalupe Mountain, Lincoln National Forest, Cibola National Forest, Gila National Forest, Petrified Forest National Park, Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, Humphreys Peak, Grand Canyon, Kaibab National Forest, *Temporary stop in Boulder (Nevada) to visit family*, Zion National Park, Dead Mountains, and my last stop is Big Bear. From there I head straight down to Chino to visit family. While I'm in California I plan on stopping by Yosemite; however, I doubt that'll happen now with the whole plague thing... so... I'll be driving up to Redwood National Park... and then on the 22nd of September I leave California to drive back here via the 40. I avoid the 10 like the plague. ... and thus the change of fluids required (: BUT as I sidetracked ): yes, the next one will be in October. If you want a specific weekend feel free to let me know when would work best. Can do the same route or a different one pieced together by the map I have now. |
