Just have you and your codriver take first and second at Lincoln. You can afford some tires with the contingency money. It's that simple

Ok so after reading both the Grassroots Motorsport tire test as well as the Tire Rack test I am a bit torn. With GRM the Rival S seemed like the clear victor. However, now with the TR test that seems completely wrong. Am I missing something?

Rival S and RE71R seem to be the top 2 right now. Even some Kumho drivers have not stayed with the V720s (Greg Reno being one, but maybe things have changed). Depends on your driving style, setup, car, driving surface, temperatures and weather. Pick one of the 2, adjust your setup and driving style (RE71R has faster turn in), and practice. I don't think people are going wrong with either one...

I was burned on some issues with the first Rivals (not S), so I went with the RE71Rs and enjoy them immensely...

Probably. Look at the test variables. Where they did it, what they did it on, what they did it with, who they did it with, and maybe some other stuff, too.

I recall the previous GRM result put the Rival as the thing to have... "floats all boats higher." End Result: Lots of Hankooks winning at Nationals.

Data don't match? Consider the inputs, and consider the sources.

For the price of the V720, I'd buy a set just for the other local, non-points events.

Am I missing something, or do you guys work for Kumho.....?

It's like 25/tire savings

I'd be cutting back 100 dollars on the wedding ring, to just buy the tires that are proven to work.

I got my Bridgestones with a $75 pre-paid rebate card, and I'm sure they do this several times a year.

Tungsten wedding rings are $15 on Amazon. Losing by .01 is forever.

For my scenario, I have a codriver, and I'd like one set of RE-71R to have good characteristics for the entire season. The $100-less-per-set Kumhos would just be nice to have to try something different, since barely anybody else is giving feedback on them. Since the Kumhos would be used for the "fun" events, I don't have to worry about the (possibly) more competitive RE-71R getting worn out prematurely. One of my hopes is that the Kumho may last longer (like Dunlop ZII do).

Where I live, there are three organizations that host autocross events very regularly (SCCA SFR, Lotus Club, AAS), and two other organizations offer some events throughout the year (BMWCCA, PCA). With a codriver and that many opportunities to drive, you can see it's fairly easy to quickly wear out a set of RE-71R that already shows a bit quicker wear. We also have a large venue with a very abrasive surface at our disposal.

Yup. Pretty much the same down here. With a full local season, a couple PCA events, local National events, and an occasional EvoSchool, I average about 400runs per year = 2-3sets. Toss in a co-driver and that number goes up to just under 700runs or so. $100 per set savings adds up to almost an additional set of tires.

Of course if they suck so bad and I can't stand them anymore, I just might be back on the B-Stones :-)

Hoosier addiction is a real thing. Hope weening off the B-Stones will be easier :-)

Based on comparison to ES, I'd say the former!
